not unusual !! I know it is something in my settings for out look ! but when
I click on a post, it doesent show in the bottom pane !and it puts a srtroke
through the post ,anyone know what I am doing wrong please?.

Bram...
Looks to me that all that's wrong here Noreen, is that you are trying to
read a post that is no longer on the server. I would check the date of the
post and try to read something more up to date.

pmj...
Like Bram said - normally that just means that your OutLook Express
has Downloaded the Header(s) of the Messages OK, but then, when you
try to Download the Post(s) that the Header(s) refer to (by Clicking
on the Message(s) in the Message List & thus attempting to show the
Body of the Post in the preView Pane), your OutLook Express can't get
the Body of the Post from the News Server.

That would *normally* just be cos the Post was an old Post.

If you weren't actually Connected to the Net at the time, OutLook
Express would know, so that wouldn't happen, cos it wouldn't even
*try* to Download the Body until you are Connected to the Net OK.

It booted up so fast this morning ,but when i tried to log on it kept saying

pmj...
Well, that's a DUN (Dial Up Networking) Error Code!!!

Error 678 "The remote computer did not respond"

There are *loads* of things that can cause that Error...
Have a look here!

& here's a list of all the various Dial Up Networking Error Codes,
just in case you come across any more...

Have a look down that list for Error 678 & see if any of the suggestions
for possible causes apply?

error, 678!and after about ten mins of that ,i realised I was on line . I

Charlie Drake...
If I understand correctly you are now usinf a Modem/Router and therefore
have an 'always on' connection. If this is correct what is happening is
Outlook Express is trying to dial a connection giving you the error 678.
To resolve this open Outlook Express click on

Tools
Connection
Change
Connections
Check 'Never Dial a Connection'
Click 'Apply'
OK
OK

That should sort the 'error 678'

noreen...
Thank's Charlie had just done that , so am getting there ;-)))

pmj...
Exactly!!!

The thing is, that with this new ADSL Modem Router thingy that you
now have, you shouldn't have *any* sort of Dial Up Networking Errors
showing up!!!
Cos you aren't using DUN to Connect to the Internet!
You're now using (from what I can gather?) an Ethernet Cable, connected
from the NIC (Network Interface Card) of the PC, directly to the New
D-Link Modem Router, so there's no Dialling Up involved.

& *that's* prolly what half the prob is - you may still have the Default
Settings in the Internet Explorer Connection stuff Set to attempt to
Dial Up?

You should Set that to:

(/) Never Dial a Connection.

You can Find it in...

Internet Options>Connections

got the master later this afternoon thank goodness, he will sort me out not

We'll go through the various Settings that need to be sorted out with
any New PC & make sure that everything is all as it should be (& also
Set things up so that it works in similar ways to your other one), OK?

& we'll make sure you know how to use this new ADSL Modem Router thingy
- cos it works a little bit different from what you have been used to,
using an ordinary ADSL USB type Modem.

& we'll also Save some Text Files of the Output of things like MSInfo32,
& Device Manager etc...
So that you (& we!) know what's what with the PC in it's Current
(fairly New, not used much) state...
& then when things go wrong, you can look back at the List, so you can
see what has gone wrong & where & then sort it out OK.
Or if you can't sort it out yourself, then other people will be able
to Help out, if you can refer back to a Listing of what it was all like
when it was Fresh!
:-)

sure if this will go . (now girl what was you fiddling with );-))))

Tickettyboo...
A new pc takes a while to get used to and get all the little settings
that made the old one familiar set up. Couple of sessions in the bike
sheds and you will be up and running ( just clip his ear if he gets
sidetracked LOL you want your poota sorted ). If your router is
connecting ok and you are happy with it, it may be an idea to unplug the
dial up modem from the phone socket. Simplest and best protection I
know of against the dialler sort of nasties that can get on a pc.
Just have fun Noreen, bit of a false start, but congrats on your new
baby and I know you will have a lot of enjoyment from it.

pmj...
Well, that Post *did* Go!
So you aren't doing too badly with it, so far!
:-)

pmj...
Anything & everything I expect!!!

That's how you will get to see what this New PC of yours does
& how to make it do what you want!
:-)
