Have you ever had your dentist grind your teeth down
to adjust (even-out/smooth-out) your bite?
I was having dull aches in my jaw/tooth/ear. The dentist
thought it might be caused by my clenching my teeth
together. So yesterday he ground down some teeth
and adjusted the bite to relieve the muscle that was
being strained. So far, so good.
I'm trying not to clench. (g) Do you clench your teeth?

Worse than that: I went to the dentist recently ,the first time
since Aug 1960. It was a lady dentist and as they are wont
started to talk. Me, feeling blokish, started to chat her up.
...and I bit her.
" That one will have to come out" said she.
I recalled my mother's words
"don't talk with your mouth full", grimly adding "especially
when the've got the needle."
Next visit it was extracted. Now down to my last 29.
Dental care Lesson One
If you want to keep your teeth don't visit the dentist.

LOL! Funny story, Sam, about biting the lady dentist.
About visiting the dentist, it really helps to go regularly
to have the tartar/plaque removed by the dental hygienist.
It helps prevent decay and gum disease. Flossing helps
but I don't do it often enough. The visits to the dentist
are expensive, especially when you don't have dental
insurance. I guess in the UK dental treatment is free, no?

Guess again: NHS dental treatment is subsidised, not free (except for
children, and possibly a few other special cases). That's if you can find an
NHS dentist willing to take you on.
I've no idea why dentistry costs, but other medical treatment is free.

Why did you wait so long to go to the dentist, Sam?
I'm that way about going to the medical doctor. Hate to go.

I have never had them ground down Sea but I do grind them in my sleep
sometimes and wake up with jaw ache

Yep, it's a jaw ache! I know that for sure now because
now that the pressure is on the other side of my mouth which
wasn't ground down by the dentist, I'm feeling the effect there,
slightly. My bite is uneven. I'm trying not to clench. (g)
But, as you know, it's hard to control what you do in your sleep.
I like your expression, "jaw ache". It's not quite a tooth ache. (g)

No, but mine are false

Oops! (g) I guess I should count my blessings. :)
At least you're honest.
Actually, my mom's false teeth made her look better than
her real teeth did. So there's an up-side to the down-side. :)

'fraid I do at time Sea - when I'm stressed :(

Nice to have someone who understands, Val. :)
I didn't realize I was clenching my teeth so much until
the dentist brought my attention to it. The idea had
flashed through my mind, but I dismissed it.
But now that I'm aware of it, I'm trying to control it.
I think it's the bad dreams. I often dream I'm trying
to do something and can't get it done. I guess the
dreams reflect real life. There's so much to do and
I never have the energy to get to all of it. Poor stamina.
I get work done in energy surges and end up exhausted.
But things always seem to get done eventually. Somehow. (g)

Hi Sea. I always had good teeth but I ground them down
over the years. I had them bonded a few years ago & it
was great. The rest of me is decrepit. Ruined like the
Acropolis of bodies, but the teeth are fine. I'm leaving
them to the Smithsonian when I croak, with the stipulation
they sit in close quarters next to George Washington's
choppers. :-)
