'Remember I used to grump away about the BroadBand haves and havenots?
pmj...
Grump no more I will.

Whey hey, at last a Whooshing Ned, enjoy.
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

But have we got a sooper dooper whooooshing Rabbit yet?
Rabbit...

I think Plusnet have lost me in their records except the billing section,
they know I'm here :-) I was kind of hopeful today 'cos I've booted up twice
and twice had to start my router manually whereas it normally starts itself.
I was hoping it was a sign (I believe they aren't sending out mails now) but

What do the various Status & Diagnostic Pages [*1] in the Router
say about the ADSL Connection?
[*1]
Not just the Main ones, accessible from the normal Admin Page
on the Router, but also the various "Engineering" Pages, that you
can get to by Typing in the Direct URL of the Page (or Clicking the
Links in that List of "Hidden" Router Page URLs that you have)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

Same here, exactly. Are you telepathic? :)
Rabbit...
|
You had to start your router too ? Interesting. I was getting three of the
four lights but the data light wasn't lit.

Rabbit...

Keep thinking and you'll find out ;-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
It's taking a lot of effort is that! :)
Rabbit...
|
Yeah well, your brain is a male one, not used to thinking:-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Yep! I must admit I only have multitudinous GCE 'O' levels, 'A' levels,
B.Sc Honours (Physics), Diploma of Imperial College, Associate of Royal
College of Science and a PGCE. Good job thinking wasn't required to get
any of those. :(
Rabbit...

That was learning, different from thinking :-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

Nope! You have to think a lot when w*rking out the answrs to questions on
the examination papers.
Rabbit...
|
Maybe then but many exam papers I've seen in recent years seem to have an
abundance of multiple choice answers where you just tick a box.And since the
*powers that be* now don't think grammar important there's not a lot of
thought needed in those where you have to write. It was never like that in
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

Yep! But I took all my examinations before 1963 - so maybe I did have to
think a little bit then. :)

it wasn't :-(

Great news that you have Banded together with the Broader net Ned.
Hopefully now you will be able to entrance with even more mystical
images of the micro-natural world.

?? waddya mean? I expect you to grump! Get out there and find summat to
grump about or I wont know who you are anymore

pmj...

Hey!...
Does this mean what I think (& hope!) it means then???...
|
.......... Well, I'll probably still find something to grump about but
at least I'll be able to do it faster now.
Tickettyboo...
pmj...
We are officially connected at the semi whooshing speed of 576Kbps.
pmj...
|
Great!!!
That is a perfectly respectable Speed to have!
:-)
OK, it may not be quite as fast as those people who have a 1mbps
(or 2mbps) ADSL Connection or as fast as those of us who have
a *4* mbps Cable Modem Whooosher Internet Connection...
But 512 kbps is still about 15 (or in some cases) nearly 20 times
as fast as the actual Spped of a typical (56kbps) Dial Up Connection!
Changing (at some future Date?) from 512 kbps to a 1, 2 or 4 mbps
Connection won't be anywhere near as much of a change as from Dial Up
to 512kbps.
|
The next village has 2Mbps but being at the end of some BT Bronze Age
subterranean cabling - might even be wet string, does slow things down
pmj...
|
OK, yes, they do say that "the grass is always greener on the other
side of the fence", don't they?
Jeff Gaines...
|
Yes, some - that's also where they store their firmware of course.
However, it's not practical from the cost point of view at least, to
put in enough to keep logs there, hence my comment.
Pedant :-))

But I bet you're *really* pleased to have a decent Internet Connection
now!
:-)
Have you tried using it for something that really makes use of(& takes
advantage of or needs) a decent Connection yet?
Something like web-search Earth?
That is an 11 MByte Download, so it should now only take you roughly
about 3 or 4 Minutes or so to Download (at a typical 512 kbps Download
Speed of about 60 KBytes/Sec), instead of the *Hours* it would take
on a Dial Up Connection.
(BTW - it takes just under 1/2 a Minute (24 Seconds) on a 4 mbps
Cable Modem Whooosher Connection with an actual Download Speed
of about 480 KiloBytes/Sec )
& when web-search Earth is Running, it Downloads the actual Satellite
Images & map Data & other Info, from the Internet, so it really does
benefit from a decent Connection.
Or try the web-search Maps *Web* Site...
That also Downloads the Info as you Scroll around & Zoom in & out,
so a decent Internet Connection helps a lot.
I'm really pleased for you ned!
& I do hope you find that the wait has been worth while.
If you want to know of any other Applications & things that will
really benefit from (& enable *you* to benefit from) your new
Connection, we can give you some pointers & suggestions!
:-)
