Better than being in the red hand gang
Another wonderful report and lovely pictures. Those little flowers are
amazing.

:-) and all the better for the suprise element , I bet.
I did wonder if the Bedouins regard these as 'weeds' like we do when stuff
grows and we didn't actually plant it
|
Last year I spent time on the main garden and it was pretty good but
then I had a packet of seeds free with a magazine, just stood at the
door and threw the seed on to a bit of soil and had a lovely display of
mixed cottage garden flowers created by Mother Nature without any help
from me
Look forward to seeing the rest of your piccies once you are home and
rested. I guess you will be sad to leave Jordan though

Yes, I will be, it took 25 years for us to get round to coming here and it
was really worth it. Still, its nice to go a travelling, but its also nice
to be home again too.

and the sand is extraordinarily red in places - and now so are the soles of
my feet ( despite washing them LOL)

I remember seeing a programme on telly where the sand was red, can't
remember where it was though and isn't that flower lovely. I thought at
first it was one of your Irises followed you :-)
Safe travel home and I look forward to the rest of the piccies.

Had a smashing day, we went via coach to Wadi Rum, then into 4 wheel drive
things to go through the Wadi . One of the first things we saw ( apart from
sand!) was the mountain called The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, like the title
of Lawrence's book. Time for another WOW moment :-)
The jeep things were not what you would call a smooth ride rofl, so I didn't
take many photos as we were driving round, but we stopped about 4 or 5 times
so I could use the camera then. After the heat on the coast, it felt a lot
cooler cos we had gone higher up, plus it was windy. The wind blows the sand
and creates the dunes, so smooth and curved especially on the side of the
rocks and mountains. It just goes on for miles, with a beauty that I have
never really experienced before, the ruggedness of the mountains and the
smoothness of the sand blown by the wind. Quite eerie really.
You can see how red the sand is here, looks almost wet, but of course it
isn't.
There is so much that is awesome, that after a while I got a bit WOW-ed out
When we stopped, I started to look down, at the ground and apart from
jamps...

What a terrific jolliday you are having Boo!
You seemed to have filled every moment of your stay with wonderful memories.
We look forward to seeing the rest of your piccies.
Travel home safely!

the stubbly scrub like plants I was amazed to see tiny little plants
growing. Was 'very' careful were I was stepping, these things seem to defy
all odds to germinate and grow in such barren suroundings. LOL when I think

As Thomas Gray so beautifully put it:-
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.
I've been fortunate enough to see the Arizona desert in spring and you
would not believe how beautiful it can be.

of gardens in the UK, where folk spend hours nurturing and caring for plants
and still its a gamble , these tiny little things are amazing!
There were lots of others, quite a variety really and I managed to take a
fair few pics to bring home with me.

Incredible sights you are seeing Boo. I never knew that sand could be red,
or that pretty flowers could grew in the desert - truly amazing.

Same here John, Boo always seems to find interesting places to visit and
share with us through her photographs :)

I got a silly fact for you about red dirt. Connecticut Valley
tobacco was raised for the best cigar wrappers in the world.
The soil in the Valley area is bright red. The tobacco business
is long gone here but some of the old drying barns remain. The

Well you live and learn, I didn't know they grew tobacco there, thought it
was just in Virgnia.

_____________________________________
Tobacco is grown in 21 States. The location of domestic tobacco production
has barely changed since the late 1930s, when most tobacco production came
under the price support and marketing control program. North Carolina and
Kentucky are the two largest tobacco-producing States, accounting for about
two-thirds of U.S. tobacco production.
Have a great vacation, Boo. No cost for the silly information.

old movie Parrish with Troy Donahue was made in my little state
when the tobacco business was booming. God can I talk. :)

Actually I find that very interest John. Where we used to farm in Devon
the soil is pretty red too, and it shows in the fleece of the sheep making
them look slightly pinky coloured LOL

Interesting John, and what a lovely accent you have ;-)))))

When it started to get dark, the stars were wonderful, no light pollution
out there, just very dark and the twinklets shining :-)
We drove to a Bedouin restaurant, had dinner in a tent and listened to
Bedouin musicians while we ate. Dinner was ok, a barbeque of chicken and
lamb with lots of salad stuff to go with it. Pudding was errmmm, odd LOL. We
had little cakes accompanied by some sort of weird jelly like substance, no
colour to it, just sort of see through and it looked just like congealed
wallpaper paste if you have left it in the bucket Never actually tasted
wallpaper paste, but I would bet its more appetising then this stuff was!
All in all another wonderful day.
Tomorrow we are off to the reef in a yellow submarine ( yes, I 'will' be
singing - badly!) Hope to be able to photograph the fishies through the
windows ( port holes or whatever they are called ) Then back to the airport

Hope the tide comes back in before your submarine trip, Boo Doesn't
it go out a long way there - further even than Weston-super-Mare
Tickettyboo...
|
Yep, it goes out for the length of entire countries LOL
Don't think its a real poper submarine, more a deep hold with windows, not
sure but I will find out in about an hour.
|
Safe trip home.
