Found this website about swearing.

Of course, swearing is a social taboo for many people.
However, it's interesting to read about the subject.

A bit like GGRRRRRRR! I'm not saying what I say when I'm alone ;-)

"People still need an outlet for strong emotions, and that's
where swearing often comes in. A lot of people think of
swearing as an instinctive response to something painful
and unexpected (like hitting your head on an open cabinet
door), or something frustrating and upsetting (like being
stuck in traffic on the way to a job interview).
This is one of the most common uses for swearing, and
many researchers believe that it helps relieve stress and
blow off steam, like crying does for small children."

Very interesting,SD.
Do you think Gordon Ramsay does it out of loyalty, perhaps?
HRH the Dof E served before the mast,so HM knows them all.
Wonder if the PM ever gets a piece of her mind?
Bet it sounds posh when she does let rip.
e.g. 'off' would be 'orff' for starters.

Sort of like: "Does she or doesn't she?" (g)
Bet she (HRH) does! :)
Or perhaps "annus horribilis" is as far as she'll go! :)
Sounds like a good curse word.

Another section of the article tells what to do when children
swear. One of the suggestions, among the others, was to
use humorous substitutes instead of swearwords in front
of your children.
What are some humorous swearwords you've heard?
I can't think of and good ones right now, but "Fiddlesticks"
comes to mind. (g)

That's a sweet one. (g)
My curses aren't quite so sweet. (lol)
But they do relieve stress. (g)

I am frequently heard to exclaim "Sugar"

Way back when Billy Connolly was starting out on his own he used to do a
whole act on how you can use any word ( in his case it was *bum* ) to have
the same effect as using a swear word. It was a very funny monologue and so
true. I often think of that act when I hear him now.
BTW *sugar* is my favourite too.

That reminds me of a cartoon I once saw.
I showed several stone age men sitting around a fire.
One of them was saying:
"And these words shall be known at curse words." (lol)
Kind of points out how ridiculous curse words are.

Fuddles and shabat! (lol)
That's a new one for me. Sounds useful. (g)
I wonder where it started and how.

No idea Sea, and I can't ask him now as he is no longer with us.

Sorry to hear that, Jen. There are so many questions
I never asked my mom and dad and now I'm sorry
I never thought to ask them while they were alive.
I wish my own kids would ask me some questions...
before I forget the answers. (g)
