Someone (MCC I think it was) put up a URL so that you could check what speed
PN had set you up for. When they went over MaxDSL, I think everyone's said
8Mbps then some were subsequently decreased - mine to 3 Mbps. Can anyone
post this URL again please 'cos I can't find it anywhere.

Ta I've re-bookmarked it. It says I'm at 3000 kbps. Well I'm synching at
4352 kbps downstream but my actual measured download speeds are around 1880

Oh!
Have I missed something then?

Have you had the problems with your Line that was causing it to
Synchronise at only 288kbps all made Fixted now then?
When was that sorted?
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
& what did they do to make it Fixted?

I'll try to post the message ID so's you can look:

kbps, now which one does their 3000 refer to I wonder?

I think that the figure on that PlusNet Page refers to what their
basic checks on the Line show up.

Which is (reasonably) in line with what that PlusNet Page says then?
& with what you're actually getting?

This small tool will give you an estimate of the maximum speed your line =
can support. You will need to obtain the "Downstream Attenuation" and=20
"Downstream Noise Margin (SNR)" figures to continue. These can be=20
obtained from your modem/router configuration pages.
**Please NOTE: If you are already on the 8Mb Max service, there is no=20
point in using this checker. It is only for people on 512Kb - 2Mb.**
So this checker will give you no indication of expected speed. I tried=20
this when I first got my MaxDSL and it told me I would only get 2000=20
kbps and I was already getting occasional reading in excess of 4000 kbps.=
However this site is just interesting, I've just gone to=20
are some interesting tables of best tests carried out today but most of=20
them are overnight so for "normal" people they mean little. :-)

Just done that - twice and get 1.85 Mb and 1.87 Mb. Plusnet would reckon
that at 1894.4 and 1914.44 kbps respectively.
I also see that I am 1.88 km from my exchange - as the crow flies.

Unfortunately crows don't carry your BB connection :-)

The engineer I talked to, reckoned the line length was about 2.5 km. :(
Plusnet CSC have just contacted me to say:
The best way to get the speed up is to connect the modem or router directly
to the master socket (this should remove all unneccessary interference from
extension wiring). The connection should sync immediately at a higher speed
which will then be upgraded automatically within 3 days or so.
But presumably when I reconnect to the extension lead again it will revert
back. :(

between between 3.5 and 4.3 Mbps with the new values of SNR Margin and
Line Attenuation I am getting since BT *rectified* the fault.

I usually synch between 6000 and 7000 but my download speed test ( Plusnet

been at 6500 and it's been at 4000 and various numbers in between.

My stable rate, as far as I know has only ever had two values - the
original 8000 and then 3000. Apparently I'm more like 2.5 km from the
exchange. My figure of 1.5 was probaly miles - I was told it in 1998.

OK - So what *are* the new Values for the Signal to Noise Ratio
& Line Attenuation now, then?
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
SNR = 16.6 dB
Line Attenuation 38.8 bB
Data Rate 3968 kbps
Latency Fast
