I have a 20ft container coming down to us by ship from the UK with effects
that Mum left me.
I've tracked the actual ship each day on a website.

I must admit I think this is one of the most fascinating uses of
technology :-)
When I ordered my Mac I was able to track it all the way from the factory,
including each hand-over along the chain. Now where did I leave my keys...

Amazing is technology isn't it LOL.

Yes it truly is, Russell, and I marvel at it sometimes.
But sometimes it's a mystery too. I go to my bank and draw out a cash cheque
and also pay in a cheque. The debit is on the screen as soon as I get back
home 30 mins later, but the credit appears just before midnight. I'm not
bothered as I don't lose any interest, but it's just a bit weird.

My bank is even quicker with debits - they knock them off the balance days
before they are due!
I wasted about an hour yesterday checking transactions on the internet
banking site against my own records because their balance was over 400
quid less than mine. Then I thought to check future transactions and there
it was - all the direct debits going out at the start of the month.

Not weird, think of the millions of pounds from cheques the banks can play
with. I know years ago ( and have no reason to suspect it's any different
today) wages were paid into bank accounts at 1am but weren't available for
withdrawal till 3 am, that's a long while for the financial institutions to
use the money.

Wonderful. At the moment I am tracking son's flight into Heathrow from
Chicago. It is just flying over the West Irish coast.

Just coming into Javanese water this morning.
Then when it lands I have to get it all through customs and their thorough
inspection. There are some very delicate pieces of china in there!!!

Yes, what an amazing world we live in.
And it's just as amazing that in this world, where so many
things go wrong, there are so many things that go right. (g)
Tonight I placed 3 orders for merchandise online.
They'll be delivered to my door in a few days.
I didn't have to drive anywhere or pay for gas to go there.
That's amazing too.
Do you already know what all the things are, that are being shipped to you,

I know exactly what is in the container.
A lot of items were specified in Mum's will + my brother and I sorted some
other stuff out that we wanted.
You have to write up a detailed manifest for insurance purposes + for
customs here.

Tyke?

I see. Have you room for all the things in the container?
My boys tease me and say they're going to have a big
bonfire for all my stuff when I die. (g)
I'm glad I won't be around to see it. (vbg)
I hope my granddaughters will want whatever I have that's nice.
It's nice that you treasure your Mum's effects, Tyke.

Technology certainly is great Russell to think all that is on its way to you
and you know where it is!! especially when you see the old films about ships
and what they went through.
