Yep, it's surprising how many people seem to come back & look at some of
the stuff that has been Posted up, isn't it?

I regularly get Visits to Pages I have Posted up yonks ago!
I think people come across the Links in groups & places like
that (also, the ordinary web-search Web Search turns up Posts from in here,
cos there are quite a few WebSites around that have a News Feed on them
that includes UPSS.

& also I know people keep some of the Links in their Favorites.

I know that Evelyn's stuff has been Visited by quite a few people over
the last Year, since I Posted it all up on my WebSite.

That's the stats up again ;-)
BTW nover question. I get the validator icon on the individual ( well the
new one anyway plus a random half a dozen ) biogs pages but on the main list
page Proxomitron block it and I just see red text. It's no World shattering
but is there a reason for that ?

I think you'll find that it's cos of the Sizes that are specified
in the HTML for the Pics (the Icons).

On the Main Page, they are specified as one Size & on the other
Pages they are specified as another Size.

All the main pages have a two pics 88x31 and one 40x38. All the
linked pages have two 49x17 and one 26x25.

Things like The Proxomitron very often Filter out stuff such as
Pics depending on what Sizes they are, cos many Adverts conform to
certain standard Sizes.

BTW as a matter of interest how up to date are the stats when you click on
*view stats* ? I was there a couple ( or more) times yesterday and clicking
through to the view stats it didn't register me as*returning visitor*. I've
just tried again and got the same. I do register on the counter but I'm just
curious as to when the stats update.

ISTR that returning visitors aren't counted. If you clear cookies
then return you should be counted.

It counts me on the counter even if I just do a refresh. There's some more
numbers added to the stats :-) It's just when I click in the *view stats* it

Which just shows that it's not actually a properly programmed Counter.

It's very difficult to program any sort of "Web Page Counter" type
thing that will actually give meaningful results.

& it's the "or something" which makes it impossible to Program things
like that with any chance of giving meaningful results.

They can't use the IP Address, cos that doesn't mean (or even imply)
that it's the same person (or even Machine) cos many people Connect
to the Internet using Dynmamic IP Addresses, which means their
IP Address can change & that the same IP Address can be allocated
to various different Machines.

Yes.
It will make a difference, cos many things like that will need to use
(or attempt to use) Cookies to stor the Info about the visitors.

So if you don't accept the Cookies, then how can they tell whether
you are returning or not?

The only way to do it would be if the Site required Signing up
& "Logging in" each time (which is (one of the reasons) why so many
Sites do require "Logging in" - that's so they can at least stand
a chance of knowing (& thus counting) who is visiting, by maintaining
a proper Database, with all the various Integrity & Security checks
that would involve.

But even that isn't reliable - which is why (for example) there
isn't any form of (reliable, secure & accurate) OnLine way to do
things such as Voting for important things - Like General Elections
etc.

Most things like that rely on various Techniques which are usually
thwarted (or the results are skewed by) by most decent Web Filters
& stuff like that.

So if you use any sort of Web Filtering stuff, such as
The Proxomitron &/or a HOSTS File or a .PAC Proxy Auto Configuration)
File & the Internet Explorer "Security Zones" & Cookie Settings etc,
then many typical "Counter" & "Tracking" type things won't show the
results expected either by the suppliers or the Readers of them.
