Decided to order (online) the new Dell this afternoon. A couple of things I
wasn't quite sure about so gave them a ring. The chap explained the two
things and then said why don't I order over the phone. I said no thank you
I'm ordering online - I've got it all customised now.
"But if you order online it will take 3 weeks - I'll get it to you in one
week".
"No thank you - I'm not in a hurry - I'll order online".
"But it's much better to order with me because if you order online and
something goes missing you'll have to wait 5 weeks".
"No thank you - I'm ordering online".
"But it's much easier to order with me etc. etc.". He just kept on and on
and on.
"You are not listening to me - I AM ORDERING ONLINE thank you for your help
goodbye".
Puts phone down. 1 minute later it rings - it's him again.
"If you order with me I might be able to get a discount"
"How much?"
"Perhaps £20"
"No thank you I'll order online.
"But I think you ...... " on and on and on. I interrupted him -
"NO THANK YOU - I AM ORDERING ONLINE - GOODBYE - DO *NOT* CALL ME BACK !!!"
Guess what ? I don't think I'm going to buy a Dell now :-( Don't think it's

Perhaps you ought to complain to the Company? They would like to know
about the kind of person who is representing them like that I should think.
BTW I ordered online and it came within one week :) I'm still delighted
with it :)

Pleased to hear it Val :-) I think this guy was deliberately lying to me to
get commission. I would certainly expect it in about a week ordered online.
What worries me is that he's employed by Dell and it's *Dell* I'm thinking
of buying from.
Still thinking about it. The Dell "Sale" ends today. I'll print the details
of the offer and compare them to tomorrows prices :-)
I've been watching PC World's "Sale". It was for 2 days - 26th + 27th
December. After that they advertised it ending on 3rd January. It's *still*
going today ! Can't trust anyone these days - very depressing :-(

my sort of Company :-(

Don't be deterred by pushy telephone salespeople. I've bought two
laptops, (Inspiron 6000's) Both arrived within days, and I have had no
problems whatever. Definitely the best computer I have owned, connected
it wirelessly to the 'net using a Belkin modem/router, so that I can use
it anywhere in and around the house, and garden.
I also found that any subsequent questions are dealt with quickly and
efficiently, without resort to Indian call centres.
Good luck.

Thanks for that Bryan. I've bought from Dell before and been very happy
with them. I'd be more than happy to buy again if I could be sure I
wouldn't need after sales service. Seems that it's lacking in a lot of
companies these days and today's conversation with the man from Dell didn't
exactly fill me with confidence :-(
Had a *big* problem when I bought my present PC (MESH) 5 years ago. It went
wrong a couple of months after buying it. I wasted many days and many phone
calls waiting for them to fulfil their "onsite" warrantee. Had to pay for
the repair myself in the end, the cowboys were just not interested :-(
I don't forget things like that in a hurry and am scared of it happening
again :-(

Hi TH: As an owner of a Dell it has been a good PC. NO
problems. It's a monster & not my first PC, for sure. That said,
first, if I could go back to the day I ordered it I would have
downsized, saved money & nothing would have changed as
far as my PC habits.
Anyway, I called Dell before I ordered on line, Just to hear
a human voice & ask a few questions. After what seemed like
a year I got a person who never answered my questions. He
wanted me to order from him & was a real pain. I still bought
the Dell on line & if something happens to the blasted thing
about 6 miles from my house is a business that will fix any PC
even Dell. My last PC was an HP & it was fine. Why I bought
a new PC is no mystery to my wife. It's a sickness. Good luck
TH with whatever brand you choose. They're all good & service,
at least in the US is usually annoying no matter what you buy.
