I sent those piccies of the plane to a friend who has just mailed me back
gobsmacked and wonders if you know of any more in a similar vein or web site
you could recommend.
TIA

I don't know. Didn't nail them down. Serves me right for Hi Jacking
that webpage not putting the Seasonal Card on a separate page
Rabbit...

And here was me thinking you took those piccies :-)
andon...
|
I took the ones on my page click on andon
and I posed for the Rude card.:-)
the pics you want are in Pictures
Rabbit...
|
Thank you andon, those too have the WOW factor and duly passed on.
|
The Xmas Cards are in pictures but you don't have to click on them
unless you want to :-)
Rabbit...
|
Ah but I did look at them when you first posted them ;-)

Can you explain, in terms I can understand, what the 'cloud' is at the speed
of sound please? :)

The piccs are brilliant !!! but please can I have the dog ? ;-)))))

It is the pressure wave. Rather like the vortex that one can
sometimes see spiralling off the wing tips or racing car spoilers.
If you look at the "gun-shots" you can see the "wave" in front of the
cloud of dust from the explosives. If you look carefully you can even
see the shell and the "wave" coming from that too.

Eh...yeah.....right. :)

There are many things that happen all the time that we cannot
ordinarily see.
e.g.
Wave your hand in front of your face and you see your hand pass your
field of vision. Do the same thing in a disco, and you see a
shuddering effect as your eyes persevere many points along the arc of
the passing hand. The same but better can be seen by taking LSD.
Air has a natural pressure. Dependant upon the height above sea-level
and barometric pressure (read by a barometer (often shaped like a
banjo)). If you force something through the air, the air flows out of
the way of the passing object. Often shown on TV shots of
wind-tunnels with coloured smoke to show the effect of how a wing
works to lift a plane and fly, or the efficiency of the shape of a
car. HTH

Does this help ?
Showing downdraught I woul think.

No. Thats a smoke tunnel? I was curious about what caused the white cloud
effect. I guess it's water, but why?

I think it's similar to an adiabatic expansion. The air behind the
aircraft expands rapidly into the space left by the moving plane causing
rapid cooling of the water vapour in it which condenses into minute water
droplets which you can then see

I imagine it is water vapour being compressed. Invisible to naked eye in
free form, but when clumped together ???

I am afraid that I don't know of any particular sites. The photos
arrive to me from people in the RAF. I will try and find a handful
more for you.
I have a load more of pressure & shock waves too which I will post to
the web. I'll post the URL here when they are available :-)
