Good, that jbexed but now I have another problem :(

Well when I strike the F1 key Windows continues to load as normal ??

playing with it before it started sending up these messages?

All I've found on that one is this...

I'm look up stuff now - have a few feelers. I haven't been playing with
it as such. After a bad virus hit I had to do a reformat using the
recovery disk Dell advised me to make when I first acquired the pc. All
seemed to go OK at first even had the internet connection going but
suddenly that refused to jbex and does not recognise the router or
network. It's been downhill ever since :(

Thanks both Shaz and Gareth, but I've done what is suggested here - scroll
down to the bottom reply - and that has done the trick :D

now to see if I can get the desktop to see the router/network! I get a
message saying a network cable is unplugged when it darn well isn't
