The number one top tip in a Southern Electric update I've just received
is - and I quote:-
=========================
Unplug your mobile phone charger
These little black boxes suck 100kWhrs a day from
your socket, even when your phone is fully charged!

I wonder who proof-read that, or do they mean all their customers combined?

At that rate I could heat my house with only two of them! :)
Mobile phone chargers left plugged in consume an average of 0.002 Watts
per hour. Nevertheless, the figure for all those in Britain who leave
them plugged in is an extra £7.5 million per year in electricity costs.

Question. Do they consume any power if left plugged in but not connected
to and charging a phone?
I have a couple at home that are permanently in that state except when
charging.
Am I looking at bankruptcy any time soon?

I would guess that Mike's 2mW/Hr wouldn't be far from the truth.
The same answer would apply to your question too. They do stay warm
when plugged in but not connected to a phone, and that warmth has to be
paid for, however small the cost may be. It's certainly nowhere near
100 units / day, as quoted by SE.

The moral is 'buy a gas-powered mobile phone'. :)

The way some people gossip on them I think many are gas powered.

=========================
Stand down your standby buttons
TVs, VCRs and DVDs can use as much as 85% of the energy in standby mode
as they can when they're switched on at the wall.
Jeff Gaines...

But that's how they're designed to be used, rightly or wrongly. Otherwise
every time you turn them on you have to re-set clocks and goodness knows
what else. Perhaps future models will do away with standby?

Hi Jeff,
Mine won't go into standby mode unless they're switched on at the wall
;-)
