Speed Test

very very slow - although my son's connection (he lives only a short walk
from me) is up to 6 mpbs and I have had speeds similar until very recently.
Is there any way I can tweak something to make my download speed faster ?

I've just got 3000 kbps and 2794.23 kbps respectively. The PN tester some
times gives much slower results, although it just gave 2844.4. Another
you to access through a BT connection - but you can use it as a guide
through your normal connection though. But beware they usually only
allow one test per hour. It just gave me 2528 kbps through the PN
connection. To use the BT connection you have to reboot your router with
the BT server address - see below for details:

Val, I'm beginning to see a gradual decline in speed; my sync speeds are
dropping and BT's reporting system has seen my connection speeds drop
from 7500 to 6000 in the last few weeks.

I tried FN's speedtester and I got 511 kbps on that !! But PlusNet was
showing about 4000 kbps but mine has been 5000 - 6500 kbps for ages
until recently.

I don't know what is going off but since the BT maintenance on PlusNet's
central pipes the whole system has become unstable. I'm not convinced
that PlusNet have the expertise in house any longer and I place all of
the problems firmly on their doorstep. The initial problems were BT but
as time progresses all the DSlMax stuff is revealing weaknesses in their
set up.
For example I never have any problem with my other email accounts with
other ISPs but PlusNet can't keep theirs going for more than a couple of
weeks.

Having said all that my expectations were for maximum download speeds of
5500 kbps so they are being met more or less at the moment. Time will
tell but my conspiracy theory is that all speeds will drop so that they
are well within a working tolerance to reduce connectivity issues to a

Lucky you then mothy. My synch rate has never been greater than 5100 kbps,
and I've never had a download speed better than 3600 kbps. That was only
on one day when PN, in their wisdom increased my stable rate from 3000 to
4000 kbps. That was reduced back to 3000 kbps about 16 hours later. Since
then I've had to make do with between 2800 and 3000 kbps. :( Apparently
my line length is about 2.5 km. I'm currently synching at 4608 kbps (stable
since 10-00 today)
