On UPS advice I have used AVG Free for several years now and never had
any trouble ie never had any viruses (that I know of).
However several days ago during the daily scan of the whole system
there was suddenly flashing lights message saying I had a virus.
It said the virus was 'Trojan Horse BackDoor.Generic3.VXI' and the
filename was Keygen.exe size 67.5 KB.
This caused me to look in the Virus Vault in AVG Test Centre and sure
enough the virus was in there -presumably moved there by the AVG
software.

Once AVG has moved a virus into the Virus vault it poses no threat to
your machine and if you wish you can permanently delete the file from
the vault,
If you right click on the S or T and select What is this? it will tell
you what the icons mean
|
This made me realise that I have no idea what you need to do when your
anti-virus software tells you that you have a virus.I am fairly sure
that just deleting the file identified is not sufficient. But I am now
anxious whether AVG moving the file to the virus vault is
sufficient.Might the original file not have spread all sorts of
nasties round my system. If so how am I going to get rid of them.
When I look at 'Object Details' in the Virus Vault system there are
several anxiety making datails like 'Healable=No' and 'Source=Backup
Copy' and 'Status=Infected'.
In the Virus Vault table itself there are two enigmatic columns headed
S annd T which contain red symbols like No Entry signs or Exclamation
Marks.What do these mean.
I am hoping my friends in Silversurfers can help me with this most
unwelcome development. It seems to me the technical complications that
pmj is so helpful with so I hope he is not too busy with his apple.
Contributions however from all sources will be most welcome.
There are all sorts of other aspects of events to be considered and
hopefully eventually advised upon.It would relieve my anxiety most if
we concentrate initially on how to clean the system of this virus.
Very many thanks.

You want a Trojan Horse remover. Lots to be found here:
Some one in here, may know of free ones, for you.
