Asked the son to come on Skype but when he went to his PC the whole picture
had turned 90 degrees - i.e. the bottom of the picture is now on the left.
We think Jamie has been playing and changed something. I'm lost and cannot
go over there today.
Any ideas ?

Turn the monitor on it's side ????:-)

Dunno if it's relevant, but I vaguely remember playing around with the
software for my display adapter and turning the display upside down or
sideways
Can't direct you to the right place/prog cos his may be different, but
have a look and see if there is any software relating to the
display/monitor ( mine is called Ati Control panel).
That 'may' be where he has altered summat
LOL its difficult when you are trying to read sideways though..if all
else fails and he has XP, a system restore may put it right again

Press and hold Ctrl + Alt, then tap cursor down key.

Mothy - you're a genius !!!!!!!!! :-))))))))))))))
That did it :-))) Thanks !

Mothy, what Graphics/Display Card (Driver & Software) do you have then?
I just tried that (CTRL+ALT+Down Arrow) Keyboard Shortcut Combination
& it did nothing at all.
I have an nVidia GeForce 6610 XL PCI Express Graphics Card in this PC.
It has a load of Rotate (& Scaling/Zooming etc,) Settings, in the
Display Options - but it doesn't seem to list any Keyboard Shortcuts
to do Rotating of the Screen Display.

pmj I have an ATI RADEON 9500 PRO / 9700.
As the inference was that a person of a younger variety had "made the
adjustment" then it was likely out of inadvertent use (or otherwise) of
some keyboard combination. The Radeon Control Panel allows you to set up
your own Ctrl + Alt key combination to rotate the video output in
increments of 90 degrees and the defaults are the cursor keys. Down
Arrow sets it back to the normal landscape mode.
It was a fair guess that that would work which proved to be the case.
Maurice
PS It's rattling good show today /tonight.

It'll rattle along a bit better if you do a 'turn' too. Go on, you can't
look any dafter than the rest of us!

Although it may not be the same on your son's pc get him to try this:
Right click on desktop/Display progerties/settings/advanced/rotation tab -
tick relevant radio button ( mine says Standard Landscape) but alternatives
are Rotate 90 degrees right: rotate 180 degrees; rotate 90 degrees left.

I've got to ask why there are settings in the first place to rotate.

Many (or some) Monitors are designed to be able to be used in
"Portrait" Mode (taller than they are wide), so you can (for example)
see a Document laid out as it would be for Printing on Paper (which is
normally in Portrait Layout)
So it makes eminent sense to be able to quickly & easily Set the
Graphics Card (Desktop) Display Properties to be Rotated.
Many Art & Graphics Designers use those sort of Screens.
Also many Laptops (or Tablet/Pocket) PCs have Screens that can be
Rotated/Viewed in various Orientations - so again, it's useful to be
able to quickly switch the View.
Don't forget that things like windoze are designed to be able to be
used on a wide range of Hardware - what you happen to have on a Home,
domestic type Set up isn't necessarily typical of what other people
might have - windoze has to (or should be able to) cope with all sorts
of different stuff.

Particularly 180 degrees. Do many people use a monitor while standing on
Tyke...
|
;-) ??????????
You lot seem to!!!
|
pmj...
|
LOL!
Maybe not, but many Laptop & Tablet/Pocket PCs have Monitor Screens
that can be Rotated.
Also some things such as Projectors (which are used for Viewing on
large Screens for Demos & presentations can be Rotated.

their head ???:-)
Ali...

Monitors are available in portrait format, or rotatable.
The 180 degrees would be for Australia.
Aries...
|
Of course - obvious innit LOL

I have no idea, weird isn't it

Many Graphics Cards/Display Drivers have a facility/feature to Rotate
the Display.
What Make & Model of Graphics Card is in the PC?
& what Version of the Drivers is Installed?
& what about any extra Graphics card Software Installed?
Both nVidia & ATI (the 2 most common Graphics ChipSet Manufacturers
these days) have Utilities for Rotating the Display as standard, in
their Drivers & or Software that they supply.
RightClick Desktop>Properties (or Control Panel>Display)
Have a look through the Manufacturer-specific Options in there
(on the Settings Tab, in the [Advanced...] Button, nVidia have
the Settings in a Section called "NVRotate", I'm not sure what ATI
call it.

snip
For ATI, if its less that 2 years or so old, right click the tray icon, and
open Catalyst control center. You can rotate the screen image on the
Displays Manager tab
HTH :)

What about getting on M$ NetMeeting with him, so you can see what's
