Windows Defender Update

There's an update available to version 1.1.1593.0 but read the 'note'.

*Note*:
If you have version 1.1.1592.0, you must first manually uninstall
Windows Defender before you can install this newer version. To
configure or remove the existing version, use Add/Remove programs in
the Control Panel.

Well it told me I had to shut down Defender first, but that's far from an
easy task which is why they probably suggested uninstalling, which really
is easier than stopping it!

It wants to validate before download and validate *again* before install!

Then the update just sits there for 5 mins before it says "I've got the
updates, now I'm scanning" only to tell me *yet again* that I have VNC
running even though I've already told it God knows how many times to
"Always Allow"!

I get more convinced on an almost daily basis that M$ use a different
dictionary to the rest of the world and because they're the biggest we all
have to adjust to them. I'm quite thankful that Linux is gaining ground ;)

I didn't say it didn't run smoothly, it did everything it was designed to
do, but this validation nonsense is getting beyond a joke.

Sorry, apart from VNC that is.

On my Debian Linux machine I just type (as root):

apt-get update;apt-get upgrade

And less than a minute later (unless there are some major upgrades) every
package on the system that needs updating is updated. You don't even get
the "Choose express or custom" page on Windows Update in that time.

I got it yesterday, but didn't have to maually uninstall 1.1.1592.0. So
long as it was not active at the time the wizard allowed version 1.1.1593.0
to overwrite it. It seems to jbex OK to me.

Yep, biggeordie did the same but I only copy/pasted their
instructions... and followed them. ;-)
