I can't get anywhere that,MCC.It is certainly an impressive list.
Me and the plucky little woman used to have as many as a
dozen green finches at a time, but housing development all
round has banished them for years. Quarrelsome little blighters, too.
We have even had a sparrow hawk: now that was a fearsome visitor.
Today was the day, wasn't it.Ah well, try again next year,Sam.
May I hazard a guess and say that your garden is either in the
Orchard of England or the Garden of England?..and it's pretty big too.
Good Twitching.

Sam, I am in Cornwall, in a small village, but our (very small) garden is
right on the edge of farm land, with lots of hedges all around.
I agree, greenfinches never stop fighting over whose turn it is on the
feeders!
You can still do your Birdwatch tomorrow(Sunday).

West Stand Bowler...

A jay and a woodpecker.
Also a bird that strips the bark off our chesnut tree. Any ideas what
that is?
I've seen it many times.

Mike I had the best of intentions but never got the hour to do it. I even
looked out one of Rob's bird books as I don't know all their names ....
Sorry

Have you got a description, please?
West Stand Bowler...
|
Similar size to a finch, but has a long curved beak.
Very timid, hence I never been able to photograph it.
Have a feeling it's called a tree something.....?
Probably lookin for insects in the bark I guess.

Could be a tree creeper
West Stand Bowler...

Nice one Smokey.
I've never seen a magpie in this garden - plenty on the roofs round about
but never in this garden. Maybe the rooks and the jackdaws keep them away.
Rabbit...
|
Last year there were Magpies nesting in a tree in Mrs Twodoorsup's garden. I
often got them in the garden then but that's the first time I've seen them
as close, noisy they were too.

The magpie was on the roof of the garden shed, so I counted it
in...........lol.well I did see it.
We have a nice big pond in the adjoining street, plenty birds there, and
also a couple of miles away
|
Similar story with wagtails - plenty in the area but not seen one in this
garden.

I'm going with the best in two days, seven Sparrows and one Blackbird. Mrs
Roundthecorner has about 20 Starlings eating bread off her lawn but they
don't seem to want my food.
|
Tickettyboo...
|
hmm..well, I put the food out this morning and then had to go out myself.
Didn't get back till after dark.
Food has all gorn so I assume it was birdies wot ate it, same as usual.

You aren't going to believe mine so far. Despite, bird seed, peanuts and a
suet ball the only bird I've seen in the garden all day is a Robin who
looked at the bird table and left. Not even a Seagull has appeared today. I
think it's a conspiracy :-)
MCC...
|
I think it was Barb who last year put out all sorts of goodies for her
birds only to find them in next door's garden eating breadcrumbs :-))
Rabbit...
|
I got quite excited a short time ago, six Sparrows headed for the bird
table, flew past to Mrs Roundthecorner's bare tree and settled there, where
they are still sitting. The two Cushie Doos flew from Mrs Overtheback's roof
right past the bird table. It's definitely a conspiracy :-(

Yes it was me. Intended to do the watch today but thing overtook me.
All ready for first thing tomorrow though. Just hope they haven't eaten
too much today so they are not hungry tomorrow

Much the same here, despite a bird-table loaded with goodies and a
feeder full of nuts.... Result, a solitary blackbird.. about par for the
course on the edge of this estate.. Now where we used to live was
totally different story

Almost the same here. All I've seen today is a collared dove, and he ws
only passing through. Mind you I haven't been looking continuously.
MCC...
|
Maybe the local birds all know that you have cats and so keep away.

Not usually they don't - I think they know what day it is. :)
