John in Cornwall...
Anyone flying off to Anywhere by Air ... should take note of the news that
has just been announced.
This is seen as the most severe leval of security ever introduced.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
What gets me is that it's flights from the UK to the US that are
reported to be the ones under threat, yet it's flights *to the UK*
from *Europe* that are being cancelled.

Ali...
The European airlines are staying out of Britain because they don't want they
aircraft stuck here for hours when they should be flying to other European
destinations.

Looking at the picture of the flight board on the BBC website, all
the cancelled flights are European ones and all the US ones are going
ahead. Surely it's all the US bound flights which should be being
cancelled.

What the heck is really going on?

MCC...
I think flights into this country are being delayed because flights out
have been cancelled and so there's nowhere to park the planes at the
airports.

But it's only the UK to US routes that are deemed "at risk" so there
shouldn't be any delays to European flights, in or out. Yet Lufthansa
announced this morning that it was cancelling all flight to the UK.
They aren't the only European airline to do so.

If it's the UK-US routes that are affected, surely it makes sense to
cancel all flights across the pond - in both directions.

Terry's wondered if there's a connection with the American Airlines US
bound flight that was turned back mid-Atlantic last week.

Or am I being too simplistic?

Unlikely :))

I think they are probably connecting flights from the USA
Lufthansa is allianced with United and US Air for instance.

Exactly! We aren't being told the whole tale, and until everything is
certain, neither should we. So we have to go along with the restrictions.
I didn'realise, until a few minutes ago, that similar arrests have been
made in Karachi, which could point to Al Quida involvement. The security
services have to be ultra careful

Anita...
Just checked up and my son is due into Stansted London from Palma
Mallorca today - his flight has been delayed, arrival due 14.40 is now
scheduled for 17.25.

He is at present sitting in the airport in Palma and no news has been
given to them that end at all about the delay.

John in Cornwall...
Thank goodness for mobile phones then Anita....
Hasnt this been a terrible day ... it is so worrying.
John

He did see something on the news there today - but only when I told him
on his mobile what was happening here did he really know anything about
it.

jackie...
Just seen it John under another post.

Anita...
It is indeed a worrying day - his plane was scheduled for arrival 2.40 -
it was put back to 5.20 and now it is 5.44 I last heard from him by
text he was boarding at 12.30 our time - so he should be on his way -
his 6 year old must be getting really frustrated lol
