Aries...
My daughter has been with V21 for her internet and BB connection for years
but since yesterday evening she has not been able to connect to the
internet because of this notice without any warning of disconnection. Net

pmj...
Oh dear!
:-(

That's a bummer, isn't it?

Net Services will not release her Mac address

Services will not release her Mac address until December at the earliest -
I call this criminal:(

pmj...
Unfortunately it does seem that firms like V21 (who Run various
"Virtual" ISPs) do end up being "between a rock & a hard place)...

On the one hand, they buy in their Services from other firms "higher
up the chain" - much like any other ISP does, but on the other hand,
they also rely on *ReSelling* their Services to other Firms, who then
Sell on to the Public. So, it's quite easy for them to Run out of money
& either get closed down, or have to close down their Customers (the
other Firms who they ReSell to) & when Legal Disputes crop up, everybody
*else* the Retail Customers of the ReSellers ends up losing out.
:-(

How she and the family will manage without an internet connection for

pmj...
Well it's not always a good idea to use an ISP like that for *Business*
purposes!!!

They aren't intended for business use & don't offer any SLA (Service
Level Agreement), so if a Business relies on (or needs) Internet Access,
then it's much better not to use an ISP like that.

business and school/college jbex is hard to imagine as she does not seem

pmj...
Again, if Internet Access is essential & not having it causes problems,
then you need to make sure to have an ISP which has adequate backing
(both financial & Infrastructure).

Also, make sure that you have an *alternative* means of Internet Access,
available, (you can get Free (PAYG) Dial Up Internet Access from loads
of ISPs - which work with an ordinary Dial Up Modem, but are obviously
slower than a proper ADSL or cable Broadband Connection) in case there
are intermittent (or prolonged) probs with the normal ISP...

to have an internal dial up modem so it looks like she will now have to

pmj...
Oh!!!???

What sort of Computer does she have?
Maybe there *is* one, but it's just not got the (correct) - or any(!)
Drivers Installed for it?

Almost all PCs for some time have been supplied with an Internal
(Dial Up) Modem.

I know Apples (especially the Laptops) don't always have an Internal
Modem, but you can get one reasonably inexpensively for them.

buy an external one grrrhhhhhh

pmj...
I can understand your (& her) frustration...
But if Internet Access really is important, then she should have made
plans for things like this & made sure to have alternative Internet
Access available.

Saxman...
That would include a second telephone line or a nearby wireless network
which could be quite expensive?

A second line does not offer complete security, as both lines could go
down together.

Aries...
It's really important for her husband's farming business, but I guess he
didn't really think or realise about having an alternative internet access
:( He will now tho!

Troy's Human...
Something about this on BBC Radio 4 "You and Yours" today. Long programme
starting around midday and finishing just before 1pm. It was the last item
and I only caught the last bit of it. They say the subject will be
continued tomorrow - do have a listen ! (Or even listen again to today's
proggy).

Aries...
I'll be out in the car at that time but will still be able to listen in to
Radio 4, thanks TH :)

Gareth...
Ooooh! Is your 'face' an artichoke? :-)

Aries...
erm .... yes lol

Gareth...
I love 'em! ;-))

Aries...
Me too - Mmmmmmmmmmm ;)

pmj...
I think he meant *today's* (well, yesterday's now - Thursday's)
Programme?

& for you (or anybody else who may have missed it) to try using the
BBC's "Listen again" thingy (on their WebSite) to hear the (Thursday's)
Programme, if you missed it.

(you may need to Copy & Paste that line into your AddressBar, since
it prolly won't show up as a Clickable Link in a Newsreader)

But this should (show up as a Clickable Link) & leads to the same
thing...

Aries...
Thanks sweetie l-)
