I want to be able to play and burn DVD's on my pooter,
Are DVD rewriters very expensive?

Flying Rat...
dirt cheap nowadays.
In fact about the same price as a good CD burner.

linedancer...
Thank you Ratty and John, I will check them out, probably go for an external
one I think. :-)

Flying Rat...
external ones are simpler to install but slower to use as the data
transfer rate is slower. But if that's not a concern, then go for an
external one.

two there to look at. Or their full range at

John the R-T...
Oi, are you reading my mind?

I use SVP a lot for blank discs and have bought a few CD and DVD drives
from them in the past. Excellent service and support

John the R-T...
Yep, me too. In my Canon printer I use DataWrite full face printable
CD/DVDs
family with my lifetime of pictures.

linedancer...
Thank's Ratty :-)

My personal favourite, a Pioneer for =A325

or a slightly simpler version

by Pioneer again but =A322.

Flying Rat...
ide=20

John the R-T...
No.
Internal £20.00 upwards without software.
External £39.99 upwards with software.

No doubt cheaper ones are available.

What are the benefits of an external one as opposed to having one put inside
my pooter ?

Flying Rat...
Faster, tidier, cheaper, does everything the CD drive does so you can=20
either replace the CD drive or have it as an extra.

John the R-T...
You don't have to open the case or pay someone to install an external
drive.

JoeH...
If you go for an external one make sure you have USB2 (or possibly
Firewire) as USB 1.1 will probably be too slow.

linedancer...
How will I know Joe, (ooh I'm a poet and I don't know it LOL )

*BRAM your're needed*

linedancer...
I was waiting for him to arrive and rescue me ;-)

Numpty question, I know, but I know nothing about them ?

John the R-T...
Software does most of the jbex.

TIA
Pat

pandamonium...
You won't be able to *ahem* make backups of commercial DVDs very easily
without special software that breaks the encryption. There are a couple of
bits of software available but they've been forced to close their sites
(last I heard) because the big boys threatened them with lawyers. When you
get the hardware and get used to playing with it and decide you want to
make some *ahem* backups then if you ask around I'm sure someone can point
you in the right direction ;-)

Bram...
I will.
:-)

I'd go for an internal one. Much better. I can order one for you and fit it
for nowt if you want.
you can choose a model recommended by one of the others or go with one of my
choices..

Email to arrange a date and time. Better still tell me about it on Saturday

linedancer...
Sorry can't make it, we have friends coming round on Saturday :-(

You have mail Bram :-)

in Newcastle.

JoeH...
What a valiant attempt that was. LOL

BoyPete...
DVD's hols a lot of data. Remember, that if you want to copy one, it will
copy to your hard drive first, then to the DVD. Do you have enough
space/time? I have a dvd reader, and a seperate writer, so copy from one to
the other direct :)
