Aries...
I get this message when I try to print an email or selection of an email in
Outlook Express. I don't have the same message popping up when I print
anything else, only when printing from OE? There must be a good reason for

pmj...
It's cos OE uses the Internet Explorer Rendering & Printing Engine
& the Scripts involved often have problems, cos of the various
different Security Settings (in IE)

You can turn off the Debugging Options (in the Internet Options,
on the Advanced tab), cos you can't really Edit the Scripts anyway.

Aries...
Thank you, just done that, but I'm wondering now why I haven't had that
problem in the past, weird !

pmj...
Maybe one (or several?) of the many different Options has been
changed by something or other?

Maybe you've Installed some kind of "Update" or "Patch" or "Fix",
from the micro$oft Update Site?

Aries...
could be I suppose ?

They often change various Settings & Options.

One quick & simple way round the prob is to just Copy & Paste
whatever you want to Print from OutLook Express into something
like Wordpad (going via Notepad, if you want, to remove any

Aries...
which is what I've been doing :)

pmj...
Do you use M$ Wordpad (or M$ Word) for it?
Or Notepad?

I find that some things Print better from Wordpad, (rather than
Notepad) cos that lets you Set things like the Font, Color, Style
& Size etc, a lot easier than Notepad, & it also copes (reasonably
well) with Tables from Web Pages, but it still handles Plain Text
OK like Notepad does, but sometimes it sort of "chokes" on some stuff
from some Web Pages & eMails

Aries...
Really? I don't remember ever using wordpad!

pmj...
Oh?
You should try it some time!!!

It's like a very basic & limited Version of M$ Word - so it Loads
up *much* quicker & doesn't have all the Umpteen ToolBVars & Menus
& Dialog boxes that M$ Word has, so is much quicker & easier to use,
yet is capable of knocking out stuff such as Letters & things.

It's really just a basic text editor, rather than a full Blown Word
Processor, but is better (in many respects) than Notepad for that...

It has the basic facilities to change the Fonts & stuff & has a Print
Preview (which Notepad doesn't have), so you can see how many Pages
what you're Printing out is going to take, & to make sure the stuff
fits on it OK, without having one whole Page with just 1 or 2 Lines
on it!

I always use it for Printing out stuff such as eMails & things,
when ever I have to Print them out, rather than trying to Print
Directly from OutLook Express, or from Notepad.

(But it has much better Print Layout & Print Preview capabilities than
Notepad, so sometimes it's an idea to Paste stuff into Notepad first
& then from there into Wordpad).

Aries...
Right :)

Had you noticed the difference between the Paste & Paste Special
Options in Wordpad & Word?

Aries...
Nope - is it any good for making html web pages, is it better than notepad

pmj...
Try it - & see what happens to the stuff you Paste into it.

pmj...
Well, not really - as Ali has explained.

OK, you *could* use it for HTML, (which is actually just Plain Text
& Wordpad can handle Plain Text fine) but the Fonts & stuff are for
*Viewing* (& Printing) what you are Writing, not for putting in the
HTML.
So a basic Text Editor is prolly better & if you want features
& facilities more suited to HTML, then use a Programmer's Editor,
like Ali suggested, which will have proper Syntax Highlighting & also
a better Search & Replace etc.

for that ?

Ali...
No. At best it is the same. The availability of bold, italic, etc, is just
misleading.

If you want to write your own html (as opposed to letting a WYSISYG editor
write it for you) Notepad is quite good, a syntax highlighting editor is
editor, understands *much* more than html.

Aries...
I do use Notepad for writing html and I use CSE HTML Lite for validating it
:)

Aries...
although I've just looked at pspad and like it better :D

Aries...
You've helped a lot, many thanks :)

Formatting) - usually Wordpad preserves the Formatting, (or tries
to) which sometimes is what you want & other times it's best without
the Formatting.

Another thing to try is to not just use RightClick>Paste
(or Menu>Edit>Paste) into Wordpad, but use:

Menu>Edit>Paste Special...

& then pick "Unformatted Text" from the List.

it but what ??
