Ray.Milne...
I'm having problems downloading updates for one of my anti virus proggys.

Support has said to add their addresses to my Hosts file.

I have done things like this in the past but an now suffering from Goose
syndrome,(forgot how to do it, can anyone remind me please.

In my win xp, the hosts file lives in Drive
Letter:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
It doesn't have a file extension ( just called hosts with no dot something
at the end)
Find yours and open it in notepad, there will be a bit at the top which
tells you how it w*rks.
Basically , to do what you want and be sure you get to a site, you would
add the IP address then at least one space and then the host name, then
save the changes.

I usually use it to block things like advertising sites, by using the IP
address of 127.0.0.1 ( my pc) and then the ad site host name. Then, when a
page tries to go to an adserver to give me an advert on my screen, it
can't get there cos the hosts file wont let it go anywhere but my poota
and I don't get the ad :-)

Jeff Gaines...
Host will be in:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

There is an example in the file usually e.g.:

# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

So just use their IP address and name and delete the '#' from the front
of the line so it ends up like this:
38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

NB - the files doesn't have an extension, one tradition that Bill G
followed :-)
