BunnyHare...
Sorry, but I will have to trade in my ticket for Monday night

Rabbit...
I hope you read the small print, the price of the tickets are non refundable
and subject to an administration charge for change of date. Please forward
you bank details :-)

BunnyHare...
Sorry, don't have enough money to use a bank

JoeH...
LOL

BBC Click Online this week has an item on PIN/Computer security - it's
amazing what information some people will give to a complete stranger.

Rabbit...
Sheesh it is amazing what people will tell. I'm afraid I'm the complete
opposite. I got a phone call the other day from BT, and refused to even
confirm my name but pointed them to their own web site warning about hoax
calls. Eventually I was convinced that it really was BT but still refused to
give them any answers 'cos as I told the caller, they had all the info they
needed about me in their records.

JoeH...
Good for you - did they understand though - and will they change their
procedures because of it? I think I know the answer to those.

Ali...
I had a phone call a few months ago claiming to be from my bank. When he
asked for my sort code to confirm my identity, I pointed out that *he*
called me, and asked him to prove his identity. He didn't. If he was
genuine (probably was) he would be in a call centre in the Clyde area.
I've had phone calls from my branch and they've never asked for confirmation
of identity beyond agreeing to my name - after all who else is going to be
answering *my* phone?

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Sort codes wouldn't confirm a great deal, esp if it was my bank
because no matter which branch the account was opened at, the sort
code is the same for all of them.

Ali...
My bank does have different codes for each branch AFAIK, but anyway, it was
the principle of the thing - I'm supposed to take his identity on trust, but
have to prove mine - when he called me!!

pmj...
That's OK ,Barb!
:-)

There'll be plenty of other opportunities for us to nip into the
BikeSheds for a Session!
:-)

I forgetted that I am having a birthday and we are likely to be
celebrating - Doh!

pmj...
LOL!
Fancy forgetting that?
:-)

Haven't you got Boo's Calendar Page to look at, to remind you of
upcoming Birthdays then?
:-)

Think I will have to take a rain check now until after I get back from
our little excursion to Holland

pmj...
OK, have fun!
:-)

Stand well back as there will probably be a rush to grab my Bike Shed

pmj...
There's plenty to go around.

ticket

Splodge...
I suppose I could have pinched it Barb, but I'd quite like to keep all the
shortcuts on my Desktop!!!!

BunnyHare...
I'll hide mine before I get the next ticket then shall I?

pmj...
That reminds me...

A little while ago, there was a discussion in here about all the
various Icons people have all over their Desktops (most of which
are never actually used).

& several people took great delight in announcing that how they
liked a "clean" & tidy Desktop on their PC their Desktops & that
their Desktop had *no* Icons on them & showed Screenshots, but the
Screenshots clearly showed the Recycle Bin Icon, still resolutely
sitting there, on their Desktop, cluttering it up, making the place
Untidy...

OK, yes, it's easy to remove *most* Icons from the Desktop, but that
Recycle Bin takes a bit more getting rid of, doesn't it?

besides, with some of the Icons, once you've Deleted them, it can
actually be quite awkward to get them back, if you want them.
Well...

I suddenly twigged that there's actually a *very* easy way to get
the Recycle Bin (& all the others) off the Desktop!
& it doesn't need any Editing of the Registry or stuff like that...

RightClick Desktop>Arrange Icons by>
& *Un*Tick Show Desktop Icons
:-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
That took an awfully long time to *twig* pmj, but it w*rks a treat.
Mind you, that little *twig* was probably a b****y big branch by that time
though. LOL

There!
All gone!
Just like that!

& if you ever do decide you want them back, then you can just Tick
that Option again.

But anyway, I actually think that it's a good idea to have (some)
Icons on the Desktop! - But to make sure that the Icons that are
on there *are* actually useful ones.

I always go to the Desktop Properties & Select the Desktop Tab,
then Click the [Customize Desktop...] Button & make sure that the
ones I want are Selected in there (including the "My Computer"
& "My Documents" & "Internet" Icons).

& I also make sure to Drag them onto the QuickLaunch Bar as well,
to Create Shortcuts to them, which are easy to get to, even when
other Windows are Open all over the Desktop. (I also have make sure
to have a Shortcut to Notepad & a Command Prompt & other useful
things like that on there as well.

Jeff Gaines...
Much better to create your own toolbars with things like that - and not

pmj...

Splodge...
Thank you pmj. I've printed your wise words out and will try to follow your
instructions - honest.
Splodge
Yep, but I know many people draw the line at *too* much in the
way of that sort of "Faffing around" (as they call it)...

But the odd thing, which I find it *very* hard to get across to
people is that just a small amount of time spent doing thinga like
that (& finding out what actually *can* be done in that sort of way),
really does help Save *loads* of time later...

on the OS drive. That way they are immediately available after a

pmj...
Ah yes!
Good point!
:-)

But again, many people don't actually have a different Drive
(Partition) to put things like that on, do they?
:-(

Again, cos they say that's too much "Faffing around" & they never
get around to actually Setting up the Partitions , putting it off
continually.

BTW - I found out a long time ago, that it's actually very easy to
have your Internet Explorer Favorites Folder on a different Drive
(or Partition), so I now *always* make sure to swap that around
as soon as I can.

& I also (more recently) sussed out that you can also have the Folder
that is your Desktop on a different Drive as well!
:-)

So I move that as well.

I'm not sure if the actual QuickLaunch Bar Folder can be Moved as well.
But it might be possible (bearing in mind that the QuickLaunch Bar
Folder is a bit different from the other normal Folders, in that it
lets you Open the Shortcuts in it up with just a *Single* Click,
whereas (normally) windoze uses a Double Click to Open Shortcuts)

Yes, I know that Folders (& the Desktop) can be Set to Open all
Shortcuts with a Single Click, but that (in my view) isn't a very
sensible or safe way to have things - I've seen too many people
accidentally Run/Open something that they didn't mean to, just by
Single Clicking on it.

re-install.

pmj...
LOL!
But it's up to *you* what Icons you have on your Desktop isn't it?...

I only ever suggest (& recommend) removing Icons that you don't use
at all, or that were put there by Programs during Installation,
without asking.
