jamps...
Following pmj's instructions I have successfully *moved* the 83.3GB of My
Documents into the "D" drive. I wonder if I should have only moved a *copy*

pmj...
Nice one!!!

But I don't see how you managed to get 83.3 GB of "My Docs"!!!

What *ever* have you managed to find to make it that size?

to the "D" drive to be used as a backup?

Jeff Gaines...
I think you have done the right thing, if you had a problem now and had
to re-install then your documents are safe on the 'D' drive. However,
as that is the only copy then backing them up to an external HD or to
about 150 CD's is still a good move :-) That's a lorra,lorra data!

pmj...
I think there may be a little bit of Confuzzlement somewhere
along the way...

The idea was to *Move* (rather than just Copy)[*1] the whole of
the *Contents* of the My Documents Folder, (& all ists Sub-Folders)
from its Default Location (which is in your User Profile Folder
in the "Documents & Settings" Folder) to the other Drive (Partition)

[*1]
Yes, it *is* also a good idea to keep a *Copy* of it (perhaps back
on the other Drive, but the general idea is that the main, working,
Day to Day Folder, that is referred to by windoze as "My Documents",
but which can actually be called whatever you want, which can be
a bit Confuzzling) should be on a *separaste* Drive (Partition).

There may well also be other stuff already on that Drive, but that
shouldn't be "inside" the My Documents Folder.

Already on that drive were Adobe Reader, desktop.ini,Tools (Support,Videon
Muvee,Wallpaper,WinFlash, Your PC.

Jeff Gaines...
These sound like things specific to the manufacturer of your PC, I
don't have a Medion but others who do will be able to confirm their
layout is similar.

pmj...
Yep.
That's the stuff that is supplied by Medion.
None of that needs to be actually inside the (new) My Documents Folder.
& anyway, all (or almost all) of that stuff is *also* on the CD(s)
that Medion Supply with the PC called "Application & Support CD"

The desktop icon, which shows an *open* folder now contains all of those
and another folder of My Documents so now I have to open two folders to get

pmj...
You've lost me there, I'm afraid!
:-(

to My Docs. I've managed to put a shortcut to My Docs onto the desktop and
that has half-solved the problem but have a feeling that I'm digging myself

Jeff Gaines...
OK, do you have a folder called:

D:\My Documents

or a folder called:

D:\My Documents\My Documents

pmj...
Great!!!
But yes, it's a "workaround", it hasn't really sorted out the
underlying prob.

pmj...
LOL!!!
But in the process, you're finding out more about how all that
"Files & Folders" stuff works in windoze!
:-)
Which is going to be useful, to you, when it comes to doing the
Backups to CD (or DVD or where ever) that you want to do.

in deeper! :-(

Are the bike sheds very busy these days? ;-)

Jeff Gaines...
Don't know, always used to get in trouble behind the bikesheds so I
keep away now :-)

Rabbit...
Nah you don't go behind you get your own key to the inside and there's an
opening for a day shift caretaker :-)

jamps...
:-( I don't have my own key - I go inside by invitation only!

Rabbit...
And the secret knock on the door ???;-)

Jeff would make a good day shift caretaker but he have to prove his ability

Jeff Gaines...
Chance would be a fine thing :-))

Rabbit...
You're creeping :-)

Rabbit...
Ooh ahh missus, you are naughty ;-)

first! ;-)

pmj...
Yep!
They're always busy!!!
:-)

But there's plenty of room for another!
:-)

jamps...
Great!! First one there to put the kettle on! I'll bring the choccie
biscuits! :-)
