Oldrose...
I have some pictures that I want to print onto acetate to show on an
overhead projector and wonder if anyone can advise me.

Oldrose...
Not printed directly on a desktop printer but of course you can take
prints to one of the print shops and they will put them on Acetates

Thanks, Len. Would that be somewhere like Jessops? Would I need to print on
photo paper or ordinary?

pmj...
If you're going to do it that way (using a 3rd party Printing Firm to
Print them onto Acetate), then I would suggest taking in (or Sending
them) the actual *Files* (you can take them in on a CD or Memory Card
or USB Memory thing, or Uploading them to their Site, or by using
eMail), rather than taking in Prints made from them.

That way it eliminates one of the stages (the Printing onto Paper),
which will degrade the Image & also alter the Colors.

Old Grizzly...
In fact most photocopiers would do it so if you know someone in an
office with access to one it would be alright. We have a cuple of

Oldrose...
Thanks I'll go for something like that. I'll look in the local yellow pages.

"shops" here in Bristol who will print anything like business cards,
office stationary and so on and i have used them in the past.
I tried to web-search for you but all i keep picking up is university
results :(

At the moment they are PSP.tif files. Do I need to do anything to them
before I print them?

pmj...
The first thing to bear in mind is that normal Pictures (when Printed
on ordinary type Paper) use *Reflective Colors* - in other words the
Inks Absorb certain Colors & Reflect the Color that they are.

But Pictures used Acetates (for Overhead Projectors etc,) will be
expecting the Colors to be "Transmissive" - in other words the Inks
Absorb the other Colors & *Transmit* (Pass through) the Color that
they are.

So the main issue is getting the right sort of Ink to suit the
Acetates that you are using.

Most Photo Printing Inks are designed for use ith Photo (or ordinary)
Paper & *won't* work very well wit hAcetate Film.

I have an Epson Stylus PHOTO R200 printer. Will this do them?

pmj...
Can you buy Acetate Ink for it?
& can you buy Acetate Film that it will work with?

Where can I get the acetate? I need 12, but probably would buy a few more in

pmj...
A Computer or Graphics Shop/Retailer/Supplier.

case of spoiling.
TIA

GreySwan...
Have you tried this company?

Read this thread...............

Oldrose...
Thanks, that was encouraging. As I have said in other replies I will try
Staples.

Anita...
I use acetate a lot in making greeting cards - have never done anything
to my printer - just put the acetate in to print on the non shiny side
and all is well. If you print on the shiny side it not only takes a
long while to dry - but it is very easy to smudge, in some cases it will
not cling.
Wish you luck OldRose - once you have done it - you will realise how
easy it is to use.

Oldrose...
Thanks, I just needed to know if it would be OK.
Now to get some acetate.;-))

Anita...
Just make sure you purchase the acetate for inkjet or laser - whichever
your printer is.

Yep, most Printers have (in the Options/Preferences/Properties
in the Drivers) a Setting which you would need to Set, to say what
type of "Media" (Paper, Acetate film etc,) you are using.
That will (amongst other things) Adjust the Amount of Ink that is used.

You do need to make sure that you have Selected the right type of
"Media" in the Printer Preferences/Options/Properties.

You can Set those things on a Permanent basis (so they are the
"Defaults" for that Printer), or you can Set them just for a
particular Print Run.

& you can also (with many Printers) Set (Save) them as a "Profile",
so that you can quickly & easily switch between the various types,
just by picking the relevant "Profile"

should do, if you do EBay then here's a seller

item number 330028404416

Oldrose...
I don't do Ebay but the other link is helpful.

I will get into town next week and look for some. Thanks.

Most printers will happily do acetate/OHP film, printed one sheet at a
time. PC World also sell the stuff, I've seen it in there on several
occasions.

Epson do their own brand which they list as being compatible with the
R200, so your printer should be able to do A4 transparency sheets with
no problem.

pmj...
whatever sort you buy, make sure that the Ink is designed to Print
onto (& work with) Acetate Film.

You may well have to do a few trials & test & experiments to see
whether or not the Pictures themselves need Adjusting (you may have
to alter the Colors &/or the Density of the Colors in the pictures,
so that they show up right when used with an OHP (OverHead Projector)
