I've recently put Internet Explorer 7, into my PC. But now I can't seam to
use the 'Edit with Front page' to edit my web sites I have on Angelfire. The
'Edit with Front page' part is there for some sites I go to, but not all.
'Anyone any ideas why?'

Are you using the Option on the (File) Menu to get to Edit with
"xxx" (where "xxx" is whatever Program you have Set in the Internet
Options (on the "Programs" Tab) as the "HTML Editor") ? - it can be
any of the Programs which are listed in the Registry, such as Notepad,
M$ Word, M$ FrontPage or whatever.
Or are you using one of the Icons on the ToolBar?
Both of those *should* use whatever is Set as the HTML Editor in the
Registry (via the Programs Tab in the Internet Options), but how you
make it Fixted will (I think) depend on which way you are using.
Also, can you give us some examples (URLs) of specific Sites/Pages
which you are having that prob with?
Cos it *may* just be something to do with the way the Site/Page
is written, rather than something to do with your PC Settings.

I presume you mean that on the "Programs Tab in the Internet Options,
"Front Page" is Set as the "HTML Editor"?
|
pmj...
|
By "both of those" I meant that both ways of Invoking the Editor -
Menu>File>Edit with...
& also using the [Edit] Icon on the ToolBar
should both use whatever is Set as the "HTML Editor" on the Programs
Tab in the Internet Options

Well ,I just had a look at that URL & I find that using Internet
Explorer *6* (as supplied with WinXP SP2), the "Edit with..." Option
in the File Menu (& also the [Edit] Icon on the ToolBar) are both
"Greyed out"!
So I think that it's something to do with the Page (or WebSite/Web
Server) itself.
BTW - the Menu>View Source Option (& also RightClick>View Source)
*does* work OK - (they both bring up the Page in Notepad, as normal)

Can't do that in Firefox either :(
pmj...
|
But Val, why would you *want* to do that ("Edit with Front Page",
when you use Firefox as a Web Browser)?
Aries...
|
I wouldn't really, but I thought it strange the option wasn't there.
|
Surely, the whole point of using Firefox, is that it's for people
who want to get away from micro$oft type stuff?
Firefox is a Web-Standards Compliant Web Browser whereas as Internet
Explorer isn't.
& Front Page is designed to write Web Pages to cater for the various
foibles & failings of Internet Explorer (It writes a whole load of
superfluous stuff into the Web Pages, making them much harder to
maintain & more prone to problems), so if you're using Firefox as
your Web Browser, I think the assumption (on the part of the people
who designed & wrote Firefox) is that you shouldn't want to use M$
Front Page as your Web Page Editor. - But there are various
"Extensions" available for Firefox, some of which will Enable you
to Set it up to use M$ Front Page, if you really want to.
Have you tried using the (Free, Open Source) NVu Web Page Editor?
Aries...
|
Oh yes, but I still go back to Frontpage as it's so easy to use lol

You may be interested in Microsoft Expression Web Designer which is
succeeding FrontPage 2003. The latter has split into the above and a
bigger package called SharePoint Designer 2007.
Here is where you can download a free trial of Web Designer. It can be
installed alongside earlier versions of Frontpage.

Thanks Mike, I'll download that trial now :)

It wouldn't go back with System Restore I had to use Add & Remove programs
pmj...
|
Yep.
MCC...
|
IE7 didn't show in Add & Remove programs
Mike Tullett...
|
Mike - did you have a tick in "Show Updates" there? I'd guess IE7 would
count as a Windows update and won't appear unless that tick is there.
MCC...
|
Yes, "Show Updates" is ticked, but there's no sign of IE7 in either "Add or
Remove Programs" or in "Add or Remove Windows Components"
Mike Tullett...
|
I have just installed it and see it in add/remove programs as "Windows
Internet Explorer 7"
MCC...
|
So it is! Silly me! I was looking under Microsoft and Internet Explorer -
never thought of looking under Windows
|
|
And now I've got another problem :-(
I am no longer able to click on a URL in my newsreader Dialog and have it
open in my browser. I've tried changing the File Association from Firefox
to IE7 and back again but it still doesn't function at all.
JoeH...
|
What about a double click on the link Mike - does that work?
MCC...
|
I've tried that too - no joy :-((
Aries...
|
Out of curiousity I went into Dialog and clicked on my home page line just
once and it jbexed for me into Firefox which is my default browser - but I
do have IE7 installed as well.

Mike Tullett...
|
My IE7 has no problems opening URLs in Dialog. Sometimes re-registering
some .dlls can do the trick there.
MCC...
|
I've solved the problem, thanks. I didn't have a default browser set after
uninstalling Firefox 1.5 and IE7 before re-installing both. Lesson learnt
:-)

to take it out. I'm now reverted back to v6.0.2900.2180....... & my Edit
with Microsoft FrontPage is working fine. Will any one who does use IE7 let
pmj...
|
Strange!!!
That's the Version of IE that I'm using & the "Edit with..." Option
(both on the File Menu & also the [Edit] Icon on the ToolBar) *don't*
work on that AngelFire/Lycos Page that you Posted...
They are "Greyed out".
BTW - I have my "HTML Editor" Option Set to use Notepad, but I don't
think that's anything to do with it - the "Edit with..." Option is
"Greyed out" regardless of what Program is Set (in the Internet
Options, on the Programs Tab) as the "HTML Editor"
|
me know when they solve the problem? As I like to keep my PC up-to-date.
pmj...
|
I don't think the problem is specific to IE7 (see above) there must
be some other reason why that "Edit with..." Option is unavailable
on some Pages/Sites, yet is available with others.

I just went back into IE7 for testing purposes and what do I get -
wretched pop ups although I have pop ups set not to appear in IE and also
use Adblocker - sheesh I hate pop ups!

I use NVu - it's a nice piece of freeware.
