RISC stands for Reduced Instruction Set Computer.
The original RISC-OS was the operating system of the Acorn Archimedes,
successor to the BBC branded Acorn computers.
The CPU is totally different from a Pentium or any of its predecessors,
relying on doing lots of simple operations very quickly, rather than Intel's
approach of providing higher level instructions such as multiply and divide,
and not worrying too much about the speed.
Jeff is obviously an afficionado, and in addition to his real RISC machine,
he now has a virtual machine running on his (Pentium?) laptop.

I know someone who has a set up the other way round..that weirdo RiscOS
stuff running ( I think) virtual windows. Now, where were you when I was
trying to help set up a bb connection ( by phone and mail) when I only
know (little bits of) the windows terminology and he only knew the Risc
OS stuff - but nothing about net connections? LOL We got there in the
end but it was the blind leading the half sighted for a while :-)

It's all good fun, and keeps my mind active :-)
I'm looking for an alternative to Windows, having seen Vista "I have
seen the future and it doesn't work" - at least I don't like it :-)

Well if I'd known what it was I might have noticed, 'cos I did look at your
headers but RISC-OS/4.39 didn't mean anything to me :-(
