Last week, sometime (Thu or Fri?) Val (Aries) Posted that she had
a problem with a Mains Adapter for her (3Com) WiFi ADSL Modem Router.
In one of my Replies in the Thread I mentioned that (as it happened)
that same day (or the day before) I had come across a problem with
a Faulty (non-working) Mains Adapter for a *Belkin* WiFi ADSL Modem
Router.
This person has bought 3 Belkin WiFi ADSSL Modem Routers over the last
2 or 3 Years (used at various places) & one of them stopped working
(no lights on it at all - no WiFi Light, no ADSL Synch Light & not even
any Power Light).
:-(
She phoned me up, cos I had originally got it for her & set it all up
at her place & expected me to just say that she'd have to buy another
Router - but I said "hang on a mo... We can prolly suss out what the
prob is - it *sounds* like just a duff Mains Adapter & we should be
able to get it replaced, either by Belkin or by the Retailer who
originally sold it"...
So I nipped over there & sure enough - we ascertained that it was
simply the Mains Adapter itself that had packed up - the same Router
worked OK with a different Mains Adapter & the other Routers didn't
work with the suspect Mains Adapter.
On last Friday it was too late to ring Belkin (their Support Line,
which I got the Number of from their WebSite) shuts at 4:30 PM on
Fridays, apparently, for the Weekend.
:-(
I rang them on Monday (or was it Tuesday?) this week & explained that
I had a faulty Mains Adaptor (& explained how I knew it was faulty)
She accepted that it was duff & I asked if I could have a Replacement
Sent to me (I was expecting to have to Return the duff one first & then
they would send a replacement one out, once they'd received it, but I
*hoped* that they would be prepared to send the replacement out in
advance) & they asked for my Name & Address & said they would send one
out!
:-)
It arrived (in a plain cardboard Box) in a Jiffy Bag in the Post
today!!!

Their after sales service in respect of replacing goods is excellent. I
had to replace a Belkin UPS, they sent a new one out to arrive the next
day and sent me a reply paid slip to return the old one (they are very
heavy!).
Trying to get technical support from them can be a bit hit & miss though.

:-)
With a Compliments Slip - no charge whatsoever!
:-)
What is also useful (I hope) for Val/Aries is that this particular
Mains Adapter was actually over 2 Years old! - it was bought during
2004 & also has a Manufacturer's DateCode on it of 1104 (Week 11,
Year 2004) Belkin do state that their products have a "LifeTime"
Warranty & I have heard of other people having complete Routers
replaced, if they have had one that develops a fault, but I was
pleased that Belkin realised that this was just a fault on the
Adapter & sent a new one out FOC, with no hassle or arguments & no
need to return the duff one, even though it was actually obviously
made originally by a 3rd Party Supplier.
So, Val, it may be an idea to Phone up 3Com & ask them to send *you*
a new Mains Adapter for your Router? - Since it's *obviously* defective,
if one of the Pins on it has become physically detached.
