Granddaughter (15) and Grandson (13) were admant they were going to do the
26mile walk today. Had no walking training, but both strong (judo both,
ballet the GD) .. they were down at the Castle for the 8.0.am assembling.
Many pairs of fresh socks each, some high-cal. light bits to nibble, plenty
of water. It might take them eight hours.. I have to admire their
determination. Anyone on here doing the Walk (will be have done when you
read this)..... ??

--------------- and now home are the walkers, at just after six o'clock,
a little later than they thought. They were sponsored for their chosen
deserving organization. Who says the youngsters of today don't care????

Well done to them both.

When I was about your granddau's age, I did the Rehab Bridges of
London walk, 18 bridges from Tower Bridge to Kew Bridge, an estimated
26 miles because it meant crossing every single one of them. Took me
5½ hours. I could still do the walk: but it'd take me longer than

Well done to your grandchildren. I think there are more youngsters who
care but they very rarely make the headlines, which is a shame.
Our local guides take part in the Cotswold Marathon every year in
February when they walk overnight 12 miles for the under 14s, 26 miles
for the 14-16 age group and 40 miles for the 16 plus and it is very rare
for any of them to give up before they reach the end

that though :))

Rabbit...
Well done both.

Tickettyboo...
Well done them! I hope they are suitably proud of themselves :-0

Not me! Not never, ever. I despair sometimes when I see a whole
generation written off as 'uncaring' The youth of today is much the same
as youth of any day, the vast majority are great, some are just young and
need a bit of time to mature but do rise to the occasion when needed. Just
like the older generations, there are a tiny percentage who are selfish,
but there's always time and hope for them too.

Well done to them both and all the others that took part. A few aches,
pains and blisters today won't mar the sense of achievement I'm sure.

I've been with some youngsters recently that certainly care and there are a
lot out there.
