Went out for a meal last night with youngest daughter and her boyfriend.
When we had almost finished the meal he said he wanted to ask us a
question and proceeded to ask if it would be all right if the two of
them get engaged or whether we would have any objections
Aaaaah bless

I agree Sandra i have met him only once !!but i liked him at once , he is a
lovely lad , and he has a lovely girl , will be seeing them this week;-))))
BunnyHare...
|
Well of course once they had approval from the Duchess...:-))
|
|
BunnyHare...

We have known him for three years. The first year he was part of our
daughter's group of friends and then about a couple of years ago the two
of them started to, in modern day parlance, become an item.
Hopefully they will make a go of it, they seem well suited

I've always maintained that the best relationships start off as and continue
as best friends. Unfortunately nowadays so many relationships seemed based
on other things which don't last in intensity as long as true friendship.
Yes they sound a good match.

I think you are right there Sandra. I certainly hope so

That's lovely Barb, congratulations to both !!
BunnyHare...

Will pass on your congrats. They have gone off to see his parents now
|
|
|
..errmmm, he did ask 'her' first, didn't he?
BunnyHare...
|
:-)) Yes he had asked her before he spoke to us and to his own parents.
Wonder what they would have done if we had said no considering that they
are above the age of majority

Probably the same as GGJ and I did. Her dad kept saying "wait a
little longer - wait a little longer". We waited for two years then
got a special licence. Only four of us at the Registry Office. A
photographer happened to be at the RO and took a couple of pictures.
Only my side of the family at a very small reception.
Oh yes, all the pipes in mums house had frozen up over night so the
four of us went to the RO without washing! The guests arrived late as
the trains were held up by frozen points.

Oh dear John that was a start and a half , but never mind you did it in the
end ;-)))))

|
I say! A day to remember then in more ways than one!

|
Sounds like that really was a day to remember John. Seems to have
w**ked ok though as you are still together

Congratulations to your daughter and boyfriend Barb, nice to see old
fashioned values still mean something in today's world :)
BunnyHare...

Yes - and we had a good meal out too

|
Anita Carter...
|
Oh that is nice Barb - and something to look forward to also:)
BunnyHare...

We're told they won't be rushing into anything as he has to establish
himself in a career first.

Bless indeed!!!
Nice to be asked Barb.
Best wishes to the couple :-)
BunnyHare...

Thanks Russell. You are right, it is nice to be asked, even if,
technically, they are old enough to do what they like without asking

How old fashioned!!! Didn't think anyone even contemplated that these

I thought that too. FN. Perhaps he just wants to get on my good side.
Guess its always best to get future in laws on side :-))

I thought I was the last one to do that back in 1967. My ex FIL was most
gracious. My ex MIL told me I was making a mistake. OK after 13 years of
marriage it appeared she was right, but then who ever listens to their

Well not many, I suppose, though I have a son in law who comes and asks
my advice occasionally :-))

MIL? :)
Anita Carter...
|
Well, Ron and my mother had an understanding - she hated him and he hated
her. But for my sake they put up with each other.
She insisted our marriage would never last - wonder what she would say if
she knew we were now in our 50th year lol
My father on the other hand got on very well with Ron - they were in fact
drinking partners - maybe that was one of the reasons that my mother
disliked him so much lol
John the R-T...
|
Very similar to my relationship with inlaws only the other way round.
Wouldn't say that I hated FIL - we just didn't talk. MIL was a lovely

Sounds like a good recipe for success

woman. We got on so well that when FIL died in '63 MIL moved into a
flat near us and visited every day.
Anita Carter...
|
I got on very well with my FIL - my MIL and I never showed any animosity to
each other, but I always had the feeling that she was not sure of me.
Nothing was ever said on the subject - we both behaved as if nothing was
wrong between us, which I suppose was the best way.
Smokey...
|
I second that Anita, makes life a whole lot easier !!
Anita Carter...
|
It certainly did, Smokey - but I suppose we all have our complaints about
in-laws, very few are really content with each other - and of course it
works both ways :)

should give you enough time to save for the wedding:)

Well they said it will be a couple of years so will have to start
putting the 5ps away :-))

You will be inviting all of Upsland I presume. I need to know now so I can
