Tyke...
I wonder if anyone can help me.

When I click on some links to videos on the net I get the error message.

"Can not create DirectShow player"

In the blue bar of the error message the word "npdsplay" is shown.

This has happened on Val's Falcon webcam link this morning.

Do I need to update anything - or am I missing something???

Using Mozilla Firefox.

Aries...
I'm using Mozilla Firefox too Russell and have no problems viewing the
webcam but have no idea why you cannot see it, sorry :(

Win XP sp2.

Any help appreciated.

Tickettyboo...
npdsplay.dll is a file in the Windows Media Player program folder on my
pc.
searching the web seems to suggest it should be copied to your plugins folder in
Mozilla (? perhaps to make it available to your browser cos I assume it
was designed to interact with IE cos that comes with windows) - though it
doesn't always make the prob fixted

Tyke...
Ta Boo.

I had a go at copying the file into the Mozilla plugins folder but to no
effect yet.
Thanks for the info though - I have learnt something there :-)

A Troll...
Which version of Windows Media Player do you have?

Steve...
Hi Tyke

Last but one item, then follow your nose.

Tell us what happens.

Tyke...
Thanks for having a go at this Steve :-)

I've updated DirectX to no avail.

Steve...
Oh and finally if you have the Extension 'No Script' loaded make sure
you *allow* the web page your viewing to run javascript.

Tyke...
Checked that as well ;-)

Looks like a reinstall of WMP is the answer - I'll have a go when I've got
spare minutes :-)

Thanks again Steve .

Steve...
You might also try installing the latest version of Direct X:

And I have found this:

"4 "Can not create DirectShow Player" error: I have never experienced
this error, so I an not clear on why it occurs. It was recently reported
that it could be a symptom of this problem:
Failing that, try reinstalling WMP and installing the latest version of
DirectX. Windows XP users with WMP 9 can try upgrading to WMP 10, and
WMP 10 users can also try rolling back to WMP 9. It has been reported
that booting Windows in Safe Mode, deleting WMP, then reinstalling WMP
will solve it. I have not tested this method (having never had the
error), so I do not know if it will work and I do not know what possible
side-effects manually deleting WMP in this manner could cause. In any
case, try the other possible solutions first. "
