MCC...
Would anyone care to explain to me the benefits of using one of these cards
in my laptop rather than the built in wi-fi thingy (which seems to be
working great in the confines of my home)
Thanks

Ali...
I doubt that there are any. However for anyone without a built-in wi-fi
thingy, which was most laptop owners not so long ago, the benefit is being
able to connect to the internet wirelessly. :^)

Flying Rat...
very little, unless your onboard wireless is having problems detecting
signals or doesn't support certain protocols such as ultrafast speeds or
security.

It also could reduce your battery life as it'll use more power.

So in short, if onboard works there's no need to add a second device.
They could also start arguing and cause problems.

BoyPete...
ATM, no reason at all. However, as technology moves on, your onboard wifi
will be left behind in terms of speed etc.

MCC...
It'll be a while yet, I think, Pete. Currently tootling along at 54Mbps.

BoyPete...
My network is all running at 125Mbbs atm

MCC...
Whoooooosh :-)

What's your broadband speed like in, or very near to, the metropolis?

I'm currently running at between 5 & 6 Mbps.
