Thank you for sorting our my friends laptop for her, she is happy now with

That's OK!
:-)
It was a pleasure!
Well, it was actually a bit awkward (but we managed OK) cos for
some inexpicable reason, her Connection seemed like it was walking
in Treacle & each time her Screen changed (as she Clicked on Menus
& Hovered over things etc,) it took several Seconds (& in some cases
*Minutes*!) for the Change to come down the line over the Connection,
before I could see it my end.
But we got there in the end.

Great!!!
:-)
I think she's learning bit by bit & finding out things.
Obviously, since she's never used a PC, or windoze or the Internet
before it's all new to her & she's still only just finding out the
basic sort of things - like how to Click the Mouse (without moving
it while Clicking!)

her laptop. Was her problem anything to do with my setting-up?

I don't think so - it *was* something to do with the Avast Anti Virus
thing she is using, but I dunno if the actual prob was caused by the
way it was Set up.
If she has any more probs, let us know & we can have another look at it.

Thank you pmj I will be seeing her in the week and have another look at her
computer.
she is having another telephone socket put in another room and keeping her
laptop there so she will not have wires trailing all over the place perhaps
things will settle down better then.

LOL!
That reminds me...
We *did* have a minor little "Hiccup", when we first spoke on the
phone & were trying to get the NetMeeting Connection Set up, so I
could look at what was what on her PC...
We went through the stages & then she tried calling me & it said
"Unable to find the Person/Machine you are calling" & then I twigged
that she hadn't actually Connected up to the Internet!
I explained that you *do* need an Internet Connection, to be able to
do anything "on the Internet", such as Browsing the Web, Sending
& Receiving Mail & using things like M$ NetMeeting!
:-)
& then, when she tried to Connect (by using the "Connect" Icon on
her Desktop & also from within the "Network Connections" thingy),
it said something about "Cannot Open Port" - I then realised that
she may not actually have had the (USB) Modem Lead Plugged in!
Cos you gotta have the Modem Plugged in, to be able to Connect to
the Internet!
:-)
So I asked her to check that - & she laughed & said "Oops - Yes,
it's not Plugged in!" !
:-)
When she Plugged the USB Modem lead into the PC, then it all worked
fine & Connected to the Internet OK!
:-)
So we could then get on & sort the prob of the eMail Sending Error out.
