Driver error, or just plain cheating.

more like self raising? ;)

I was watching, unlike the dork that wrote that piece, and he didn't
spin. He ever so gently slid towards the outside barriers and stopped
short of them so as not to damage the car. He then conveniently stalled
the engine.

Or Was Told to cut the engine.
The thing that I don't understand is why, when he had set his fastest
lap ages before, that Renault left it until the last possible lap to
try to beat it. With so many cars on the circuit and the potential
for error magnified by that track it did seem a tad imprudent of
Renault to rely on the checkered flag lap. If they had not messed up
with their own pitstops for final tyres - 2 laps after MS pole
setting lap, they would not have been in the position.
Academic anyway. Ferrari were stripped of Pole.
After all, it is F1 but not as we know it. It aught to have changed
its name to Bernie Racing or somesuch. It is just a TV spectacle.

I totally agree !!
F1 was the only thing I watched on TV. I no longer bother watching it :-(

Don't think I've watched it seriously since the Mansell days, but before
that I really enjoyed the Andretti/Petersen Lotus era. Wasn't that when

I totally agree with your comments.

Mind you I gather the senior *Cobbler* did quite well this afternoon,
finishing 5th after starting from the pit lane.

That's the trouble with F1 these days. Most of the overtaking seems to
happen in the pit lane.
Never mind, I see an Englishman leading the Indy 500. And a champion to
boot. :-)

Are they allowed to kick the champion in American racing then?
datasmog...

Yes.
Unfortunately, he didn't win.
But a close race with lots of wheel to wheel racing and plenty of
overtaking.

turbos ruled.

At least the MotoGP still has real racing.

Thus ensuring Alonso couldn't grab a last minute pole position and saved
a whole laps worth of fuel and tyre wear.

Ray, got to agree with you he didn't spin he just tried to make out he'd
got out of shape, ever so slightly, locked up his front right, mainly
because he nearly misjudged his parking speed. He made no attempt to
turn through the bend when his speed had dropped instead just driving
straight on towards the barrier. Then he conveniently made up some cock
and bull story about not being able to engage reverse and stalling the
engine.
I personally think he cheated I expect the stewards wont have the nerve
to say so.

That sounds good to me. He's always been suspect in my book. Didn't he
deliberately run someone off the track a few years ago to prevent them
overtaking him?

That'd be Mr Damon Hill esq, to prevent him becoming world champion.

You're probably quite right. I'd sort of lost interest around then. :(
