Does this ring a bell with you?
It resonates with me... and a guilty bell rings. (g)
TWELVE RESOLUTIONS to save me from the Net (g):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read
my newspaper like I used to, before the Web.
Ali...
Never drank coffee or read morning papers.
2) I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with
one hand typing.
Ali...
Rarely have a cooked breakfast.
3) I will get dressed before noon.
Ali...
If I'm out of bed by noon, I am.
4) I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash
clothes,and plan dinner before even thinking of the Web.
Ali...
I do that. Usually on Saturday mornings.
5) I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate
few friends and family that are Web-deprived.
Ali...
Did that at Christmas.
6) I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact
via the Web.
Ali...
I even phone people I can contact on the net,
7) I will read a book...if I still remember how.
Ali...
I remember those: ink on paper.
8) I will listen to those around me and their needs and stop
telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear the music
on the Web.
Ali...
Living alone does have *some* advantages :^)
9) I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email.
Ali...
TV commercials? My email checks itself.
10) I will try and get out of the house at least once a week,
if it is necessary or not.
Ali...
I can't remember a week when going out has not been neccessary.
11) I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget
to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on the Web.
Ali...
Serious question: What is 'balancing a checkbook'? and why is a bank
unforgiving if it is not done?
12) Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed
sometime ... and the Web will always be there tomorrow!
Ali...
There is a way to manage that *and* continue surfing, but so far I've not
got an internet feed in my bedroom.
Jeff Gaines...
Laptop and wireless network time???
Ali...
No. I need a reason to get up. :^)
Ali...
And I wouldn't need a laptop, I've an Amiga in there that just needs
switching on.
Numbers 3 and 10 hit home with me, and sometimes #11. (g)
As for #7, I'm finally reading _Atlas Shrugged_ ... slowly. (g)
~~seadancer~~...
Then why am I still here at my computer? LOL
Guess it's cause I'm having fun. :)
Hi Sea: Ayn Rand, huh? She was so interesting in her own right
it's amazing. Atlas Shrugged, her most famous book, was also a
movie. Well enough of that. I thought the website that went along
with your post was very good. Just wanted to thank you for posting
it & I'll keep it in my favorite file. I have one of my vulgar posts ready
for action but I urge the silversurfers not to read it.:) Take care.
Hi John - I didn't know that _Atlas Shrugged_ had been
made into a movie. I tried to find it at IMDb.com, but the
following is all I found:
Evidently, a movie of it is scheduled for 2007. I hope I finish
reading the book by then! It's over a thousand pages long. (g)
Could it have been a TV movie at one time?
"Atlas Shrugged is the 'second most influential book for
Americans today' after the Bible, according to a joint survey
conducted by the Library of Congress and the Book of the
Month Club." That's amazing.
Couldn't find any reference to a movie of it. Hard to believe.
Do you remember who starred in the one you saw?
BTW, I'm glad you liked the website where I found the list of 12.
Yes, it has some great links. I like the following one entitled,
"Inscription on a Garden Gate":
