We had a power cut in the early hours - we were awoken by the chair lift
whistling about 5 am.
We did not realise what it was - the whistle stopped and we returned to
sleep.
When we awoke at 7am we discovered the power was off - checked that
there was no movement on the meter - and switched the trip off and on a
couple of times with no result.
Phone the electricity board - and they said there people would deal with
it within 4 hours, they had no other calls about power failure in our
area.
At 8am we saw that both our neighbours either side of us had power - so
thought it could be something wrong with our wiring or fuses.
About 9.45 the chairlift started whistling again - and on came the
power. Then we had a call from the electricity board to inform us that
their men were working at the junction box and they had found a faulty
fuse.
They also said they had other calls complaining about power failure. I
asked why our neighbours had not been affected and was told that
obviously we must be on a different cable for some reason.
Thereby hangs a mystery - cos a few months ago we had a local power cut
and both the neighbours either side of us lost their power too. We were
also told we were all on the same cable.
Hmmmmm wonder what they have done to the cables since?

The plot thickens Anita, seems very strange, that is something to think
about if there was an emergency that the chairlift
would not work!! I hope it does not happen again - scary!!

Well, I did manage to help Ron down the stairs - he was very careful and
made it eventually. But I am interested as to why we are on a different
cable to our neighbours !

When we've had power cuts in the past, sometimes different street lamps go
out. I'm told that is because there is a 3 phase supply with different sets
of lamps on different phases. It is possible to lose ony one phase -
rather than all three, so not all the lamps fail. Maybe it's similar with
yours and some of you neighbours supplies. Just a guess. :)

Well I did wonder - but about 6 months ago we were on the same cable -
now we are not, oh well I am not going to open up discussions with the
electricity board - gonna just be thankful that it was their fault and
not ours:)

Well if your neighbours were on another phase from you but all three phases
had failed then they would be out as well. All three phases *to* the
substation that supplies you would be in the same cable, but when they
split the phases and feed them to individual houses *from* the substation,
each phase would then have it's own cable. So it just depends at which
point the fault occurred, but I would have expected some other uses would
have had the cut as well.

They did apparently but none are nearby :)

So there you have it then. :)
