Has anyone ever used the little spare buttons that they attach to the
washing labels on shirts?
MCC...
|
Did it just the other day, Jim, on a sweat shirt which has a button-up neck
and collar like an ordinary shirt rather than a round neck.
Very handy :-)

I have once in the dim and distant past. Just to replace a cuff button that
got damaged in the wash.

Very, occasionally Jim! Are you new to Silversurfers?, if you are you are
very welcome
and stand-by for the welcome posts!!

I asked the question as I am currently ironing and the pesky things are a
pest, but I dare not cut them off as another will drop off in sympathy. :o?

So Wednesday is your ironing day too. Just finished mine about ½ hour ago.
:)
Jim Scott...
|
No! I ran out of Jeans and shirts :o)

Oh dear! Never done that yet. :)

You get a tin/jar/bottle then cut all spare buttons off and put in
tin/jar/bottle. Of course Sod's Law dictates that when you want to use a
spare button the exact same one will be the only size/shape which you didn't
put in said tin/jar/bottle :-)
MCC...
|
You've got tins/jars/bottles with buttons on? ;-)

he he Your not a day for task man then Jim

|
I inherited a tin like that and it contains every type of button known to
man/woman (EXCEPT the one you need)

Yep! Me too. :)

I have one of those going back to 1956 - have so many that it would take
ages to find matching sets. I used to be good and sew matching buttons
to cardnboard or paper before putting them into the tin. But I stopped
doing that many years ago ;)

I've got a tin like that. In my case, since I've been known to do a bit of
dressmaking, if I found the ideal buttons there was always one short of the
number I needed :-(
|
I got to thinking (always dangerous) and realized that not only would I not
know whether my friends shirt buttons matched or what kind of
trousers/socks/shoes they wear.

Good point. Without looking I wonder if anybody here wearing something with
buttons could tell us if the button has two or four holes?
Ali...
|
Yes, they definitely have two or four holes. I've never seen one with
three, five or six holes.
While I couldn't say for certain how many holes are in the buttons on the
garments I'm wearing , I can say that the last button I sewed on had four
holes.
|

Four hole buttons are for heavier weight material - coats, jackets etc.
Two hole buttons are for light weight material - shirst, blouses etc.
Ali...
|
Having looked, the shirt I was wearing yesterday, and the one I'm wearing
today both have four-hole buttons, and I rather think most of my shirts
have them.

Yes, I recall. Your site is excellent Jim.
I'm from South Shields originally, and the photo archives brought back many
memories from my youth.
