1943 - Tips on Getting More Efficiency from your Women Employees
Tips on Getting More Efficiency from your Women Employees
The following is an excerpt from the July 1943 issue of Transportation
Magazine. This was written for male supervisors of women in the workforce
during World War II, only 60+ years ago! The intent was not to be "funny".

It's astonishing it was only 60 years ago, we do appear to have made some
progress I think!
Mind you I applied some of that type of logic in recruiting PA's. I always
felt that you should look for a woman whose children were grown up/
growing up. A woman who has had children and dealt with all their traumas
and tantrums is perfectly placed to be a PA :-)

Which admirably reflects on the characteristics of her boss to be methinks.

I just found it so unbelievable and astonishing, not to say unheard of,
that I just had to mention it :-))

Just found this list of "Tips".
Is a PA a Physician's Assistant?
Are you a physician, Jeff?
Jeff Gaines...

No, Sea, I was a Company Secretary and Personnel Manager :-)
A PA is a Personal Assistant, quite similar to a secretary but the
senior ones liked a better job title!

Oh, I see. I know how hard it is to find a good personal assistant.
I had several "assistants" when I was working in the business
world (after I left teaching). One of the most important skills in
an assistant is the ability to take direction. The following quote
says it all: "It takes more skill than one can tell to play the second
fiddle well."
Another tricky side to being a "boss" is trying to choose the right
person when hiring. Sometimes the one who seems to be a
good choice during the interview, turns out to be a bad choice.
You just never can be sure until they're in the job. I still regret not
hiring the "nervous" one with her poor hands shaking. She probably
would have been better than the one who turned out to be a real fox.

& apparently - sadly enough - that particular "Round Robin",
"Multi-Forwarded" thing *is* actually true!
:-(
& that Snopes Urban Myth Site even has some Scans/Photos of the
Cover (& a couple of Pages of the Article) from the original
(July 1943) Issue of "Mass Transportation" Magazine...
