Thanks - very usefull,
Since my partner is the most euridite pedagogue (translates to "most boring
old f*rt" in the vernacular) I've come across then any reference that gives
me the ability to stop him waffling for at least 10nS while he thinks of the
answer (= next lecture/soapbox topic) and thus gives me a chance to finish
what I was telling him before he interrupted must be a valuable assett?

After you get there, enter the word you're looking up.
It'll give you a list of links to *all* the available dictionaries
online with definitions of that word.
Furthermore, I have discovered that the best dictionary for
synomyms is: "dictionary.com", which usually comes up
among the list of links at onelook.com.

for
crossword puzzle.
Here are some additional uses not widely advertised:-
you can type in:- ?x??i??t??n (examination) if you want an ordinary
word in a puzzle
or:- ?i??o? p??t??n (willow pattern) it will accept spaces for
more than one word, or for a phrase, proverb etc
or:- ?y??r???d:city (Hyderabad) just type colon and category
after the last letter
That last one is a godsend if you're looking for cities, towns, butterflies,
dances, composers, etc
or other categories.
It was the first shortcut I put on the front screen when I had to re-load
everything last week.

Hi Splodge. Thanks for the crossword puzzle hints.
That's amazing. I usually just peek at the answers in
the back of the puzzle book I use, especially when
I'm really frustrated. (g)

When you get to the dictionary.com website containing the
word you're looking up, click on "Thesaurus" at the top.
You will see *every* synonym possible for that word!
It's absolutely amazing! I've never seen a more thorough
thesaurus in my life.
So often when I'm looking for just the right word, I find it there.
For example, go to:
Check out all the synomyms for "amazing".
Maybe I should just use the following URL in the first place:
For example, for the word "ambiguous" go to:
It's positively: amazing, astounding, bewildering, breathtaking,
extraordinary, impressive, marvelous, miraculous, spectacular,
staggering, startling, striking, stunning, stupefying, stupendous,
wonderful, wondrous!
I hope this post hasn't been too: ambiguous, cryptic, dark,
Delphian, doubtful, enigmatical, equivocal, incomprehensible,
indecipherable, inexplicable, inscrutable, obscure, occult,
oracular, perplexing, puzzling, recondite, secret, sphinxlike,
stickling, stumping, teasing, uncertain, unfathomable,
unintelligible... or long. :-)
