Still got oodles more to sort through, but I have a folder up on my
webspace now if anyone wants to peek
Aries...

I enjoyed looking at those Boo and I hope you don't mind I sent your link
to two of my friends who live in Canada and they enjoyed them too but
wondered what you thought of the people LOL
Tickettyboo...
|
Don't mind at all Val, pleased they enjoyed them. The people we came
across were all friendly and very polite. Canada seems to be a lot more
relaxed than the US
Aries...

Thanks, I'll pass on what you said and also that you've added more photos
:)

Lovely pic's Boo the scenery looks fantastic.
That is one trip I want to do, we have been advised that June and September
are the best months to go.
Tickettyboo...
|
June was nice and certainly not too busy, though from what we were told it
starts getting very full in July for the summer and again in the winter,
for the skiing

Wahey... I'm going there, I'm going there... I can't wait (but I've got
to!) I'll be sharing those later :-)
Aries...
|
I want to go there too - one of my Canadian friends sent me this web link
as I would love to do that east to west rail journey sometime
andon...
|
I thought that they stopped that service.
I saw a TV prog of the final run of the train.
Hope I am wrong and that public acclaim
got it running again.
What a wonderful trip.
Aries...
|
I hadn't heard they stopped it - gosh I hope not. I will see if my
Canadian friend knows anything about it.

I guess that DavidC might know - I'll point him here if he misses the
thread.

Did someone mention my name?
Where to start?
A transcontinental train still runs in Canada, (Toronto - Vancouver) &
it's called the Canadian!
It's operated by VIA Rail Canada & runs 3 days per week in each
direction.
It runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays west-bound, 8 Tuesdays,
Fridays & Sundays east-bound, taking 3 full days each way.
Personal opinion would be that it's best ridden in the eastbound
direction, so that when riding in one of the dome car's the sun-sets
are behind you, & the flight back to the UK is shorter.
Much independent help & advice on Canadian pasenger trains is
available on a yahoo group, Canadian-Passenger-Rail@yahoogroups.com
Background to the TV prog., it featured the last runs of the original
Canadian, which was operated over the Canadian Pacific Route.
The current train, is operated over the (northern) Canadian National
route, & was then named the Super Continental.
To add to the confusion, the current train's passenger cars are the
ex. CP Canadian cars, (late '50's stainless steel streamliners) but
very nicely refubrished by VIA Rail!
If you want to ride through the Rockies on the CP route, (allegedly
better scenery.....) there is a privately operated train, the Rocy
Warning, none of these trips are cheap, they are good quality products
aimed at the "rich" foreign tourist, rather than genuine public
transportation.
"Normal" people would fly across Canada, quicker & cheaper!
VIA's prices increase dramatically during the "high season", IE now,
so the trips are probably best made in April / May.
(Warmer + more daylight.)
If you want to travel next year, make your plans soon!
VIA does provide normal, (but infrequent) passenger service on a
number of other scenic routes in Canada, + reasonably useful trains on
the Windsor-Toronto-Montreal-Quebec corridor.
HTH, David C.

my friend has given me this link but she doesn't know how up to date it is
David C...

It works, but it was written last year.
The package prices look a little high, but it's worth a peek.

The time will go quicker than you think till you go and it doesn't matter
how many pics you see, nothing quite prepared me for actually seeing them
there mountains. Oh and so many opportunities to go in cable cars..your
favourite LOL
~~Linda~~...
|
Yeah right! that is one thing I am definitely NOT doing!
Tickettyboo...
|
ooh, is this the same person who was scaredy of airplanes? and scaredy of
going on the London Eye? Ok, put me down as a extra and I will come along
and hand hold, it seems to do the trick
~~Linda~~...
|
Rofl... well I confess the London Eye was ok, it didn't wobble! And by the
time we got off, my knees had stopped wobbling too. Planes... hehe, they're
ok all the time they're going in a straight line (as long as it's not
straight down!)
Lol, next month we're going to *watch* my sister-in-law do a sky-dive
(raising money for charity)
andon...
|
Raise more by watching her from within the plane ;-)
|
I'm not even sure I'll be able to look, just thinking about it makes me
giddy!

Stunning,what a place.
I can see why you liked it so much.
Tickettyboo...

Got my eye on your neck of the woods, but its gonna have to wait till we
retire.
If our lottery comes up, expect us next week LOL

Red carpet cleaned and gin stock checked ;-)

datasmog...

Yes please give us all some advance notice.
You're not planning on going to New Zealand in February are you.
That is not a question by the way :-)

|
Have you a soft spot for the bear's, cos you have got some brilliant close
shots of them, thanks Boo,.. and the mountains are great too;-)))
Tickettyboo...
|
Oh yes, I love the bears. I haven't really gotten over not seeing any in
Yellowstone Park - I took a picernic basket too!

|

Great! Two questions!
1. Is that a safe above the bedside light in your posh 'shed' - the grey
door?
2. What sort of bird is that in the last photo? Is it a blue jay. Shape is
not unlike 'our' jay in this country.
|
biffo...
|
Brilliant photo's Boo, looks like you had a very nice time THERE even if you
had a spot of bother on the return leg, Thanks for showing them .-)))

Great photos , Boo: I've never been to western Canada but
looking at your photos it's a shame we missed a vacation there.

Madge...
|
They are really lovely piccies you have there. Hope you don't mind - had a
nose around your site - I think your garden is absolutely FAB. My sort of
garden that!
|
Tickettyboo...
|
Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed them, there will be more later, but the
garden and the sunshine is calling today :-)
Some of the pics were taken through the car windscreen or the side window
as we drove along, so they aint too brill but there was just too much
lovely scenery to stop for 'kodak moments' every five mins. If we had
stopped every time I said 'WOW', we would not have got very far! It just
went on forever though and the driving bit was spectacular, every time we
turned a corner there were miles more mountains ... bliss :-)

What stunning sights Boo !! the enormity of the mountains is awsome !!!

a problem ;-)))))

Beautiful Boo. I noticed they have a Battle there too as Pam mentioned, used
to live near there.

Forgot to ask you Boo did you manage to bring me a Mountie back please
?preferably 6foot
and red is my favourite colour ;-)))

|
Super piccies Boo, and bringing back lots of memories for me.
Is your "shed" in Jasper? If so, you might have slept in "my" bed:)))
Tickettyboo...
|
No it was near Lake Louise
|
How's the fridge/freezer story continuing? Have you got rid of the smell
Tickettyboo...
|
Well, I got rid of the freezer so that improved things enormously :-) I am
stripping the kitchen ( in fits n starts cos this weather aint conducive
to being up a ladder with a steamer) as I have decided that the kitchen
refit will be brought forward.

yet?

Well I have been a while wending my way through the posts before I got
here but I'm so glad I did get here. Absoblooming lutely marvellous.
Can't choose a favourite cos they are all beautiful. I thought Canada
was lovely when I visited Ontario but now I really have to go where the
bears and the mountains are
Thanks for a pleasant trip - I might even go and have another look :-)

Lovely piccies, thanks Boo
I have a friend who *did the area* two years ago with her sister who lives
in Toronto and had never been to the other side.I had 300 and something
printed piccies to look at. It's so much better to look at them on a screen
than one by one handed to you. You have different piccies though, she didn't
get the sunset ( my favourite) or AFAIR not any waterfalls, but lots of
trees and there's only so much you can say looking at 300+ printed piccies,
about trees and people standing in front of them :-) They BTW also stayed
much of the time in *sheds*, might even have been the same ones.
Tickettyboo...
|
LOL maybe they didn't see the sunset? Some people just take it for
granted, but I love it.
As for the waterfalls, I have been a waterfall fan ever since I was a
little girl, when I was taken to both High Force and Cauldron Snout.
Oh and I rarely have photos with either me or Mr Boo in them, never really
seen the point of me, in front of whatever. I know what we look like LOL I
wanna see what I went to see.
BunnyHare...
|
I agree with you there Boo. When people have been away and say do you
want to see my photos I would much prefer to see lots of shots of the
places they have been rather than pictures of them and the people they
were with.
Strange though I have one friend who will never look at my pictures
because she says they are always pictures of places she has never seen
and wouldn't know, she would far rather see pictures of people!
No accounting for taste
