A few years ago, when decorating, I put up a big wooden

I don't approve of DIY, it deprives honest hard working artisans of
their livelihood

You have to spend a lot of time and effort to find one of those these days
round here.

beam the length of our front room (about 20 feet long) and
some smaller ones on the walls to make the room look
oldie worldy.

The uver arf decided she wanted to go back to modern,
so down came the beams.

Hmm, I know what you mean. I got a new wall clock for my birthday. Didn't
match the kitchen...... LOL
|
When I papered the ceiling it was after I put up the beam
so no paper down the centre of the room so strip the ceiling
and repaper, also when fitting the beam, I repositioned the
light and ran the cable above the beam.
All I have to do now is run a new cable above the ceiling and
the only way to do this is take up the bedroom floor.
OK, back to the front room, stripping off the ceiling paper I
managed to damage the coving so that had to come down
ready to be replaced.
Of course removing the coving I damaged the wallpaper so
off it all came.
I now have a shell which was once a nice cosy front room.
All this from a job taking down a couple of beams that should
have taken me a couple of hours.
When I pointed this out to SWMBO she said "never mind you're
retired now and got nothing else to do"
At least the lights don't w**k in that room now so I can get up here
in the evening, I can only w**k down there in the daylight. :o))
Gonna rename that song, "When Wally papered the parlour"
BTW, I can use all the sympathy I can get.

But surely the shell you describe must be like being in the bunker!! so
really it's home from home ;-)

LOL
Lots of sympathy from me here Wally.
When we moved here it was supposed to be semi-retirement.
I've had to learn a heckuvva load of new skills to look after Tyke Towers
and never stop now!

As I appear to have been shoved in the bunker with you at least I'll be
able to give you a hand. ;-)

Not really M8, when I'm in the bunker I don't have to w**k, also
Sandra come to see me. oohhh sorry I shouldn't have said that.
No she doesn't, honest.

Oh dear Wally, that's going to keep you busy for a while ;-)
My pooter room/snug has a couple of beams in it that Jack got out of an old
barn years ago, we live in a modern semi bungalow but I wanted it to look
oldy worldy the same as Mrs Wally did yours, I have been thinking about
asking him to take them down now, but on second thoughts I won't even go
