pmj...
I prolly won't be around so much in here for a while...
(Just in case anybody notices - so no need for any SAR or anything
like that)

Cos I *finally* (after a fair bit of Ummming & Ahhhing & deciding
whether to get a big fancy one, or a smaller one etc,), went & got
myself a nice shiny new Apple MacBook (Laptop/NoteBook) PC.

~~Linda~~...
Oooh, you did it! I'm sure you're going to have great fun... just remember

pmj...
Yep!!!

I've been wanting to get an Apple Computer of some sort for quite
a while & then, when they started using Intel Processors (which can
run Virtual Machines at pretty nearly native Speeds) I thought I'd
better get one...

& now that all the Apple Line (including all the MacBooks & MacBook
Pros) now have new the Intel Core *2* Duo Processor (which is even
more efficient) I thought now was the time to buy an Apple (as opposed)
to just Playing around with - Errr... Sorry I mean Testing & Evaluating
other peoples Apples!

to eat and sleep now and then pmj!!

pmj...
Yep I'll try to...

& (like Boo says) mustn't forget to go to the loo as well!!!
But with a Laptop (& a WiFi Laptop at that!) that's not so much
of a prob now!
:-)

pmj...

Ali...
So, an Apple a day will keep pmj away! :^)

Have fun doing all that p^Hresearching.

Yes - I count it as a "PC", cos it *is* a "Personal Computer" - even
though it's an Apple & Runs the Apple Mac OS X (10.4 - Tiger) Operating
System (& is thus considered a bit different from the run-of-the-mill
type Laptops/PC that come with windoze), it still does everything
(& more!) that a normal PC type thing does.

*&*...
Since all the Apple PCs (the Desktop/Tower type ones, & the "All-in-one"
(Display & Processor) & the MacBooks (Laptop/NoteBooks) all now come
with Intel Processors (the new Core 2 Duo ones), they can Run windoze
(& also Linux etc, if you want) on them *as well* as their Native
Apple Mac OS X
:-)

& they can do that *at the same time*! - Cos they can Run the other
Operating System(s) as a "Virtual Machine" (either in a Window, or
FullScreen) or (in fact*as well as, if you want!) they can be Set up
as a Dual Boot System.

So now, we have the best of both worlds!

Actually, apart from just "being able to" & "cos I can", I don't expect
to be Running windoze much, cos it seems that pretty much all the
windoze Applications that I (& I presume most people?) use on windoze,
are available (or equivalents are available) to Run directly in OS X

These Apple MacBooks do seem to be quite neat...

They can be used "as is", for most things (but where's the fun in that?)
or they can be "fiddled around" with - there's *loads* of goodies
& interesting things on it - just waiting to be fiddled with & found
out about!
:-)

Have a happy playtime then. :)

pmj...
Oh, I am!!!
:-)

I've just succeeded in Installing WinXP [*1] onto it (as a Dual Boot
System) *without* using the "BootCamp" thingy that Apple supply,
(which they supply so that people can Partition the Hard Disk & Install
WinXP on a Mac)...

If you want to have a look at the (Semi-)*Official* (Apple) way of
doing it, have a look here...

The MacBook (& the newest Versions of OS X 10.4) actually comes with
a handy (Command Line) Utility called "Diskutil" which can handle all
the Partitioning (which is a mixture of MBR (Master Boot Record)
Partitions & GPT (GUID Partition Table) Partitions) - the ordinary
Apple Graphical Disk Utility thing won't do it though, cos it gets
Confuzzled & gets the Partition types mixed up.

[*1]
OK, since these new Intel Mac Machines were only released in 2006
& WinXP was released way back in 2001, not all the Hardware is
recognised by WinXP & it doesn't come with the Drivers for some of
the fancy things in it, such as the WiFi, Bluetooth & built-in iSight
Camera etc, so I will need to Install the Drivers for them, which come
as a Package inside the BootCamp thingy, which is a Free Download from
Apple.

The Parallels (Virtual Machine) Installation is a breeze as well,
cos I've already done that, both in windoze on a normal PC & on my
Brothers MacBook Pro.

Now that I have done it - Installing WinXP on it without using BootCamp
to do it - (just "to see if I can"), I must get to find out more
about the actual Apple Mac OS X Operating System...

I'm certain all that will be as clear as mud to me pmj. I'm just content to
know you're having fun. :)
