Since Johnson's want about £18-50 for dry cleaning 5 ties (more than for a
single suit), I thought I'd carefully hand wash and rinse them. They've
dried out nicely and look pretty good, but I'm a little concerned about the
pressing of them. I know there are ironing-board attachments (like
mini-ironing boards) that you can stick up the tie, so that when ironing
them you don't get the shape of the rear seam coming through to the tie
front. But I haven't one of those. Anyone any suggestions as to how to
proceed. I'm going to have a go after I've finished washing and polishing
the car.
TIA

We used a cardboard template on our uniform ties in the RN. What you've got
to watch is that the lining material inside the tie doesn't get distorted -
throws the tie all out of shape if it does.

You're evil Len, apart from which Gizmo's tail is all fluffed up and looks
a bit like a loo brush. :)

You are going to iron ties?
Good Lord!

I suppose Tony buys new ones when they need cleaning then?
No good for my *kipper* ties, nobody sell them anymore :(

This is a text newsgroup not The Sun, you are supposed to read the
words/punctuation marks not just look at the piccies :-)

Yep I got that, but just for the occasional tongue in cheek from your

I thought it was new 'cos the last time I was in our local store ( about a
couple of weeks ago) they were broadcasting the URL over the Tannoy ( 10%
voucher if you sign up for their mailing list) and it was the first I'd

I'll check to see if they've reinstated the menswear dept next time I'm down
Rabbit...

It's odd, I've got three within easy distance and they all have menswear.
Your local store doesn't have an upstairs and they have moved menswear there
?

Rabbit...

Nah complain to head office and at the very least you should get sent a
voucher :-)

there then. If not then I suppose a complaint to the management would be
in order.

Not much good if they don't sell anything I want though. :(

If I've got three stores within 20 minutes drive, you must have more than
one and that one could sell stuff you do want to buy.

There's only the one - Hillsborough - that's within walking distance.
The others they quote as nearest my postal code are:
PEACOCKS ROTHERHAM
PEACOCKS CRYSTAL PEAKS
PEACOCKS BARNSLEY
PEACOCKS CHESTERFIELD
PEACOCKS DONCASTER BALBY
PEACOCKS WORKSOP
PEACOCKS SUTTON IN ASHFIELD
PEACOCKS PONTEFRACT
PEACOCKS ALFRETON
all much more than 40 minutes drive away.
At today's petrol prices that would negate the reason for wanting to shop
there. :(
The only other store that's comparable is a T G Hughes in Sheffield itself.
I could drive there in about 20 minutes, but then spend another 20 minutes
or so finding a parking space and then the ginormous city centre parking
meter fee. Of course a round trip on Supertram (£2-40 - must get that
bus/tram pass I suppose) That's about 20 minutes each way too, but then
y7ou have to stand around waiting for the thing to arrive.

Or were you thinking I could donate it to a needy Bunny. :)

Oh well there's always that alternative if you want :-)

you would think that there would be more things pressing ;-)

if you have an old wire coat hanger bend it into a tight V and poke it
up the tie to sort it out and press as you remove it ;-)

Now that is a good one Len , I used to push a couple of pairs of tights in

Oooh ar m'dear.
What you want are Worzel Gummidge neckerchiefs.
Big hankies.
Wash em, iron em flat, roll em up, tie em round yer neck .......
'Can't tell if they've been ironed or not!
And they look dead camp, sweetie.
