Got yer new Dell yet ??
I've *almost* decided to order a Dell .... *almost* :-)
Might do it tomorrow .. or might not. I'm strange :-)
Aries...
|
YEP :D and it's fabulous. Still in the process of setting up the way I
want it tho. I declined the 3 year insurance and opted for the 90 day
return to base warranty, I already fantastic surround speakers so didn't
need those, and I didn't need the 56k modem as I can always use this lappy
for that if need be, or a stand alone modem I have sitting on the shelf.
There are so many interesting helpful options too as you will find out if
you order one - good luck with whatever you decide to do :D
Troy's Human...

I've got it all customised on Dell's website :-)
Am having trouble thinking of my wallet being emptied :-(
Aries...

Life is too short to worry about wallets :)

Why is it everyone seems to needing new computers all of a sudden?
Troy's Human...
|
I desperately need one because if Sandra ever visits it'll need to match
the colour of my new desk :-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Thought it must have been something really really important. LOL
|
Rabbit...
|
But of course dahlink not colour coding it sooooo non U :-)
|
|
Aries...
|
It's probably contagious LOL In my case I really needed a new desktop as
my old one is kaput but it wasn't a very good one anyway so not sorry.

Well I got my new earlier last year 'cos it was slow and wouldn't really
cope with new stuff like GoogleEarth. Sothe cheapest remedy was a new one
with XP Home Edition pre installed. Kept the old one and netw*rked it
with the new one. I still use the old one for things like correspondence
and banking etc.

Must be the New Year, I'm looking for a new laptop to put Linux on :-)
Did you find any really good deals? I've been looking at their site but
it seems incredibly sloooooow.
David C...
|
Just to add to the confusion, I've just orderd a new laptop from
Tesco's!!
Obvious place to buy a PC........
£ 499, for an Acer 4021WLMi
Jeff Gaines...
|
They do have some good deals :-)
I found a Toshiba L20 for £499 but it has a Celeron and I can't quite
make my mind up on that....
David C....
|
I was getting hung-up on the "it's only a Celeron" issue too, but £399
for Medion M350 from Wollies was really tempting.
Strangely all the local stores ran out of stock last week until their
£50 price increase, when they magically re-appeared on the shelves!
I did spend some time plowing through the Dell site, looking at all
the time-related special deals, but it was too easy to spend £700+,
which is too expensive (IMHO) for a PC to take on holiday & use around
the house for a little surfing.
Anyone fancy my old Laptop?
Cost £799 new from Curry's, it's a Hi-Grade Notino, boasting a whole
96 MB memory, (up from the original 32MB!), a 4.7 GB H/D & a CD
reader.
Currently running XP, ( a big mistake ), but I'll re-install Win98SE.
I'm not serious about offering it for sale here, but I can't imagine
it's worth more than £50-60, if that.
It was purchased for my late wife to take to hospital & use for
entertainment, mostly playing basic games.
I'm glad she got some use from it, but it's never been much use for
anything else.
I hope the Acer, which is much cheaper & far better specified will see
more use.......
Other thunks, I never managed to "slip-stream"a new Win2K installation
disc for my Dell desk-top, the new owner collected it before I had
time to do so.
He seems to be thinking about giving a new, larger, H/D, so I'm going
to send him a copy of Norton ghost 9, so he can clone his existing H/D
O/S onto his new drive.
I'm going to try the same process for myself on my main PC, so that I
can run the 'pooter from a 40GB "C" drive, with two, partitioned, 80GB
drives, & a "removable drive bay" for data storage & O/S backups.
I've had a couple of drive bays "in-stock" for a while & I've finally
found a use for them & my collection of smallish H/D's.
TTFN, it's past my bed-time, ( stayed up late, watching a Status Quo
DVD ) regards, David C.

Great! Did you have the volume turned right up and were you head
banging?
David C...
|
I do have neighbours to consider.........
As for head-banging, it's too easy to get a still neck!
BunnyHare...
|
I know - shame isn't it :-((
|
I'm only a recent convert to S.Q., but I do admire their determination
to keep doing what their fans want.
They seemed to have survived the last 40 years in much better shape
than the 'Stones, or Cream, but I get the impression that they are
Ali...
|
That's because they have been maintaining the Status Quo.
|
still not rated as on of the best bands of the time.
BunnyHare...
|
Yes, they just seem to go on and on even though not rated by some
people. Don't go to that many dances nowadays but when I have been to
the odd dinner/dance it seems that as soon as a Quo record is played
everybody gets up to dance
David C....
|
It's a sign of aging when one doesn't recognize any of the current
"chart" music, or when Radio 2 is stored in the car radio, & Radio 1
is discarded !
Jeff Gaines...
|
Oh dear, I discarded radio 2 for Prime Time a while back, where does
that put me :-(
David C...
|
Q? Prime Time Q?
Be that digital radio then?
|
|
SQ seem to appeal to a wide age range, perhaps that's why people dance
to their music, or, it's difficult no to be infected by the beat?
Cheers, David C.
|
|
Any comments?
Did anyone see the "Still Crazy" movie on UKGold, a few nights back?
For me, much better than the other reincarnation of a 70's rock band
films.
Written my the Auf Wiedersehn Pet team, featuring Jimmy Nail, Bill
Connolly, Bill Nighey & Tim Spall, ( I wonder if he can really play
the drums?)
Amazon.com have the DVD available for app. $16 inc postage, I might
be tempted.......
Cheers, David C.

|
Probably last year's model, but it does have a Pentium M processor &
enough connections for my needs.
I imagine that I'll be replacing the 256 Mb RAM quite soon but the 40
GB H/D will suffice for now, I do have a spare Archos (Hitachi) 40GB
Mini H/D which will fit in a laptop bag & give me all the archive
capacity I'll need for holiday snaps & music!
If Woolworths hadn't increased the ptice of their cheapie Medion
laptop last week, ( £399 > £449 ) I'd of had one instead, & the extra
RAM would already be installed.
Before anyone asks, I know that I don't really "need" a laptop, with
three other PC's in the house, but it's an Xmas pressie to
myself........

Cheers, David C.

Aries...
|
It's never been slow for me ??
Jeff Gaines...
|
Perhaps it detects if you're using a Dell and gives you priority :-)
Aries...
|
I very much doubt that LOL
pmj...
|
But why doubt it?
That's *exactly* the sort of thing that many Websites *do* do,
actually!!!
Most Commercial Websites these days are made from (Served up using)
*Dynamic* Pages - in other words different Viewers get Served different
Content, depending on all sorts of things, such as what Browser,
Operating System & type of Computer they are using, as well as what
other Sites they have been Visiting etc.
That sort of thing is big business - tailoring the Offers to specific
customers circumstances.
Aries...
|
OK I spect you're right but when I bought this first Dell - this laptop -
I accessed the site via my Novatech pc and it was just as quick then as it
is now ;)
|
|
|
The main page was OK this morning but branching off anywhere was a
disaster. Perhaps it's a sign that I should stick with dual-booting the
Toshiba :-)
Troy's Human...
|
I'm finding the same as you Jeff. Better today than yesterday but not as
fast as it normally is.
Aries...
|
this morning I found the internet extremely slow for some reason :(
