Digital Radio (DAB)

Our local comet has in stock/display a range of about 20 of these new
radios which are not exactly cheap however a small notice is on the
shelf displaying them and states,

Please Note Digital radio broadcasts are not yet available in this area

So what exactly is the point in selling a product which is of no use in
this area?

You may buy one as a present for someone who lives in an area that is
covered, or to take to your second home in an area that is covered.

(My feelings about Comet (probably the correct spelling) are similar to
my feelings about television and fitted kitchens.)

Similarly our local Tesco Extra has two shelves full of routers.
The only problem is they are for cabled services like NTL and Telewest.

Do the routers actually incorporate a cable modem? Or is it just that they
do not incorporate an ADSL modem? - Which would mean that they can be used
with any existing modem, or even to establish a LAN with no Internet
connectivity at all.

It would appear from the shelf edge information that Tesco's sell two
different routers, one specifically for ADSL and the other for cable
companies. They had no ADSL models left but the shelves were full of cable
types and they ain't going to sell many of them down here cos there ain't

And if they plug directly into the cable, they aren't going to sell many in
ntl areas, 'cos ntl don't generally allow customer-owned equipment to be
directly connected any more.
