It may be using OE but it's a Green smile here using MesNews ;-)

In MesNews, if you click on 'Settings' > 'Smiley' ... you can change it
to a yellow or white cat or any one of the other options. :-)

btw. I've just seen 'Halloween' in the Smiley list which must have gone
in there at the last update but I don't seem to have the GIFs as it
only shows the red *X*

Thanks Grannie but it's not that. Mine is to do with my News Reader
(Mes News) and not having the actual GIF images.

That's what I had, it's because you have the "Block images and other
external content in HTML email" setting on. Change it in TOOLS, OPTIONS,
SECURITY.
