BunnyHare...
My account has obviously been cancelled under the 90 day rule as I

John the R-T...

pmj...
Which is the standard Error which *really* means "The Server is Unable
to Authenticate you, using the Credentials (UserName & PassWord Pair)
that you supplied.

The POP3 Specifications actually say that the Server *Shouldn't*
say whether the prob is with the UserName or with the PassWord - for
Security Reasons. That's so that (Malicious) people can't work out
whether they have got part way in.

pmj...
& that isn't an *Error* message as such - it's really more of
a "Notification" - it's just saying that the actual (TCP) Connection
between the Client (your Mail Program) & the Mail Server was correctly
Closed & not just Broken or Abnormally Terminated.

All that sort of thing can be used to help Track down what the
actual prob is & where the prob is & what can be done to sort it
out & make it Fixted.

pmj...
& I know several other people with Freeserve Mail Accounts who
haven't had any prob. - So I assume it was just a Temporary Glitch,
somewhere along the line?

Not necessarily. Wanadoo/Freeserve are having problems ATM. Have you
tried accessing you acount via web view?

BunnyHare...
Hmm you could be right. I can access ok via the web view, just won't
pick up in OE
Thanks

Wally...
I'm having probs too, when I try to download mail it asks for
username and password, when I enter it it is rejected.
That's with Outlook Express and on the web. :o((

BunnyHare...
That's the problem I was having with both OE and with the web initially.
Then I was able to access the webview but not through OE then it cleared
itself so must have been their problem, not mine

forgot to activate it with being away etc. When I go to restore it the
instructions state to always select Open or Run this program from
current location and NOT to select Save or Cancel. I only get a choice

pmj...
Yep, they say that, cos they want to try to make sure taht the ".INS"
(Internet Settings) File, with all it's Browser & eMail
Client "Customization), is actually applied.
Bu tyo udon't need to dfo that.
The action of "Retrieving" the Account will have Set the *Servers*
up OK, yo ureally don't need to do anything to change the Settings
on your PC.

pmj...
Well, you can just Cancel it - but I always choose *Save*, so I can
then look at the File using Notepad, to see what's in it.

pmj...
See above.

Your Security Settings *should* be Set so as to not allow directly
Running an INS File, cos that is (in effect) a setup Program which
changes alll sorts of things.

of save or cancel. Must be something in the security settings - but

Rabbit...
I know you got the problem sorted but for future reference an easier way
than the reactivation page is

BunnyHare...
Thanks for that Sandra - noted for future reference

need to change your password just type in the same old one and it
reactivates without any hassle.

what?
Would like it reactivated as I still have lots on the website and use
