Does anyone here have Sky broadband. I've been asked about how to set up
and told 'what is in the box' but haven't been to see it for myself. It is
to connect one laptop, wirelessly and they've never had an internet
connection before, so no previous dial-ups or anything.
Apparently the instructions say to use the cd but my question to anyone
that has already done it, is whether this is necessary or like most isp set
ups you can do it without and if so, what info is needed?
Is it just a simple, plug in filters, plug in phone cable to
filter/broadband box and plug in power supply.
Is it possible to use XP to manage connection or do they really need the
SKY software? What and where, for instance, would they set up the security
settings? Also, he tells me there is 'stuff' in the instructions about a
special Skybroadband website, where you have to go afterwards to set up
email etc. Am I right in thinking this is just a homepage and they don't
really *need* to do it all via that page?

I know nothing about SkyBroadband, but every email system I've used (quite
a few) need you to create a mailbox (or several) on the ISP's mailserver.
This is normally done on the ISP's website. You also need to set up the
mail client (OE or whatever), either manually or by downloading a file
from the ISP.
You may also need to go to the website to active the account - with ntl
the only place on the internet you can reach with an unactived account is
their registration server.

I *will* be going there at the weekend, if they can't manage to set it up
themselves, with me on the end of a phoneline but knowing a bit in advance,
from someone that has already done it, would help, not easy working blind!
Thanks. I'm off out for an appointment with the vampire soon but will be
back later.
