How does one mend a bucket with a straw?

Clutching at straws there I think...,

That is a question I first considered many years ago.
I reached the conclusion that the straw should be cut so as to cover the
bottom of the bucket, several layers deep, like thatch. Improved
waterproofing could be obtained by adding a layer of clay or pitch, which the
staw supports. These days a plastic bag would provide the waterproofing.

Then again, You could use the plastic bag to carry the water and sod the
bucket!!
Ali...
|
Perhaps: water is heavy, and plastic bags stretch.
